NHLPA makes a push to retain old contracts

It was predictable. There will be accomodations made for the Big Market teams after all. They would never let anything happen that might hurt hockey in T.O.

We are at and over the floor, no way should our roster be left exposed for Toronto and Detroit. Gary Bettman warned them many many times, there will be linkage, there will be a cap no matter what, so stop buying titles, and playoff apperances and spend smartley. Instead Toronto being the fools they are sign Edward Belfour to a ludicrous contract. Why should teams that actually tried to spend reasonably be held accountable for poor desicions on the part of John Fergouson and Kenny Holland. If anything the buyout is fine, but its there problem if they do a buyout and only have few millions left to spend. If Toronto has to fill out there team, then go ahead and sign Lonny Bohonos, and Corey Hirsch.

It won't be a locked cap, obviously those teams will be able to afford to spend over the cap with penalties. The wings ownership is loaded and will spend extra to keep the fans happy and Toronto has buckets of money that just got larger once hockey starts up again.

Sorry but your dreams of doom and gloom in TO just won't happen.

I agree - it will only make them stronger, and there is something wrong with that.

Nor should they. SOMEBODY has to make the money in this league, or it would go out of business, right?

I don't know where you think Detroit can over spend on a cap, this is going to be a hard cap like the NFL with linkage. You cannot spend over the cap, unless you feel like facing 5 million dollar fines, loss of 1st rd draft picks, and super audits and so on.

Dreams of doom and gloom for T.O. Yeah right I think most people have better things to dream about besides T.O. Typical Leafs fan though to think the whole world only dreams about them.

WHo cares if some teams are allowed to buy out some players. Big ****in deal. As long as tehres a hard canp and everyone is under it is all anyone should really be caring about. Who cares if Toronto can keep there old age team b/c of a stipulation that lets them buy out portions of players contracts. Same for anyother team.

Its not a 1 year CBA its for a number of years so one more season of Toronto thinking they can buy a better team b/c they can afford it is a small price to pay for the rest of teh CBA being a level playing field. Besides we all know that Toronto is never gonna win it anyhow even if they were teh only team allowed to spend $50mil a season and everyone else had to spend under $20mil. Actually Toronot might actually do better if they were forced to build a team properly like everyone else and not go out and just buy one.
