Brooksie getting nervous:

Quote:
NYR have approx $11.1M to sign McDonagh, Stepan, Hagelin, Zuccarello, Falk. Another $6.43M over summer, but tight roster squeeze if no trade
Quote:
Three signings leave Rangers with very little wiggle room regarding Group II's. Would be badly damaged by offer sheet to McDonagh/Stepan.

He is not and never has been a 5 million dollar a year defenseman, he may be better defensively than Letang, but he is extremely overpaid. He is on the wrong side of 30 and it showed with numerous injuries last year. Letang is way more valuable to the Pens than Martin, anyone who thinks differently needs to watch more Penguin games.

Is he counting in the possible departures of Asham/Powe? That clears up a little more room.

Do you think Sather can get some of these guys signed to bridge contracts to give the rangers more time for when the cap goes up in the next three years...

They would actually have to sign the offer sheet. Don't see them doing that unless Sather was really lowballing them.

I'm sure he is trying, can you imagine if he gets all 5 guys signed for under 10 mill for the next 3 years, I'd be impressed.

Acknowledged.
On the + side, may help them with sending us Burmistrov, and with all the ridiculous crazy signings for way too much, that can only help us as others reduce their options.

Slats is always low balling; expecting short term contracts for at least one of the two.

You are right about Nash and Brass, but when will this board stop penciling in Hags and Cally, they are not going to be ready to start the season.

Kredier-Stepan-Nash
Richards-Brassard-Zuccarello
Pouliot-Moore-Dorsett
Pyatt-Boyle-Asham/Haley

Richards shifted to the wing to focus on offense, Boyle could also be shifted to the wing as well depending on Lindberg or Haley, whichever has the better camp.

Brooks doesn't really get it. Those players will all replace players who will be buried in the minors. The picture basically hasn't changed.

We also have Pyatt, and even Biron before we think of moving Boyle just strictly for cap $.

Don't look now but we've only spent 3 mil so far!

And i actually like all the signings. Pleasantly surprised.

Wonder if there are a couple of trades coming for draft picks, namely Asham and Powe.

Separately from that i wonder if we see a trade for a top 6 LW.

Sather hasn't been perfect but he has been better the past few years with managing the cap. I don't think he would've signed these contracts today without having something in the works to clear Powe and Asham out.

I will open my bottle of reserved wine when the big signings of the summer that Slats always make are Step, McD and co. Nice change to actually add to the equation this year instead of reformulating which is what Slats does every single year.

Very happy Slats is retooling rather than rebuilding, hopefully Pyatt and/or Boyle are out, D.Moore can play C right?

Never say never, but I'm pretty close to this viewpoint.

Though the Rangers seem to do better with tempered expectations...

So, being pretty uneducated at cap stuff, what are we going to end up doing to create more cap space aside from trading players out?
