Tough guy
Physical top 9 player with size.

So far we've done one of those things. I also don't see any one left on the market that can fix our face-offs, penalty kill or defense. Maybe Schultz (did he sign) maybe Malhotra if he's healthy, but I don't think he is anymore.
And that's a fair analysis, but as other posters claim, we should do these things to the detriment of common sense by overbidding on July 1st.

How many people here want Clowe for 5/25, Clarkson for 7/37, etc? Even Vinny, which I would've LOVED in a Habs uniform (I think he truly is a great 2nd line offensive center as Eller and Gal mature), but for 5 years? F NO...

The guy who goes to an auction and comes home empty handed didn't necessarily "bid on nothing", nor is he automatically the big loser...

It's ridiculous how underrated Patches is.

I would not trade him for Kane straight up. Yes, Kane is a bit younger and more physical but Pacioretty has outproduced him every single season (and let's not act as if Patches is soft). And he's still improving... his pts/game has gone up every single season since he became a regular.

It's sad to see how people treat the teams best scorer for 2 straight years now.

And just so we're clear, Pacioretty was on pace for 73 pts last season. That's a lot of pts... I freaking love E.Kane but I don't think he'll ever reach those levels.

They lost those guys much earlier in the season than we lost ours. And you can add other of those losses as well, reason why everybody thought MacLean was a favorite for the Adams. Yes, we don't know how Karlsson wil end up being, had his ups and downs in the playoffs as scheduled. Just like we don't really know how Eller and Emelin will respond as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd say Detroit and Toronto are a better today, as are the Habs, but I'd give the slight edge to Detroit and Toronto if Bolland and Weiss can stay healthy.. Toronto sacrificed some of their future in this deal however, losing several draft picks to achieve this. Ottawa and Boston, IMO, haven't improved their teams. Ottawa lost two of its veteran leaders in Alfie and Gonchar..won't just miss them on the ice, but in the room especially. Also gave up two of its top prospects and a first rounder, so didn't do a heckuva lot to improve their team in the future.

Habs improved their team for the future way more than the other four teams IMO. Detroit added a couple of decent prospects in Mantha and Nastasiuk (I don't like the Bertuzzi pick), but compared to Montreal's haul...it's no contest.

If you ask me none of the Habs fiercest divisional foes came close to improving as much as the Habs since the playoffs ended, especially when you consider that the only real asset the club lost was Kristo..and he was a longshot to make the team this year anyway. We won't see the full results of the improvement for a few years, but to be trashing Bergevin for his work in the past few weeks for me is being shortsighted. Imagine if he had been able to land Lecavalier as well..he certainly tried too. I'm more than happy with the direction he is taking the club.
So, its official Halpern is gone? I always thought he was better than most thought...reminded me of Joe Juneau

I thought Ryder would ask for 5mil/yr?

He got 2 years, 7 million from NJ.

Affordable, just saying.

To start with, and not to sully our Hall of Famers and recent stars, we won 2 Cups in the 40s with Murph Chamberlain... Kane and Seguin don't know how to have a good time compared to this guy...lOl

Toronto made some costly sideways moves. Longer contracts and yes risk with Clarkson.

Nothing wrong with Bergevins approach . You cant force the issue in free agency , if there arent improvement opportunities best to stay away. The biggest risk Bergevin took is off the books in 2 years if it doesn't work out.

The twitter ticker on tsn was reporting that the devils were offering a sweeter deal than the bruins. Now we learn that ryder signs for 3.2/yr in NJ.

Which begs the question, how much demand was there for michael ryder exactly? I mean, I could understand if he took a cut to go to a serious cup contender, but I don't think the devils are that team anymore.... but maybe he does.

You think clowe had something to do with this as part of the newfie bortherhood?

Yes! I don't understand it either. Pacioretty also has a way better head on his shoulders and his dedicated 100% to hockey. Kane seems like an *******.
