Yup and that's why it's no coincidence that the ship crashed into the iceberg after Kovy went down last year. We just had no pure offensive players. Too many grinders and third liners. This singing gives us the 2nd sniper we need.

Look at the teams that have repeatedly gone deep in the playoffs recently, all of them had a puck mover from the back end. We got there with Zidlicky, it's not like we need someone elite; but we definitely need somebody with a bit of creativity back there.
It wouldn't surprise me if Zidlicky is brought back but I'm not getting my hopes up. I think Tallinder might be the best candidate to get moved since he's still a solid player and in the last year of his deal. Obviously, the ideal scenario would be jettison Volch but I just don't know if its possible. Either way its time to take the training wheels off the Larsson bike and give him significant ice time and NEVER healthy scratch him. Seriously, I like Pete but enough with that ****.

I'd like to see an Elias-Loktionov-Ryder line.

All signs point to Lou trying to make more space for Zids. Barch and one of the deadweight guys. If he clears that we can clear the defense logjam and get Zids back.

Do that maybe we get a power play that can function.

Man I would love to never have to see Barch again. He's not bad, but he's fairly useless. I think the days of having at least two goons on the roster are over, and I'm thankful for it. And I also think the days of needing a goon in the lineup, or even against divisional teams might be close to over. It ended about 15-20 games before last season ended with Barch not playing at all the last 15+ games, and Uncle Jesse just playing a few out of the last 20.

Pete wouldn't even play them in a meaningless game against the Rangers on the last day of the season. Last time we put two of them in there it backfired, and we got killed that night.

Is he as fast as Carter and Bernier? That's the big question.

Yes, but I don't think it necessarily has to be Zidlicky. If we allow one or more of our rookie defencemen to grow into the role during the season, or make a trade at the deadline, we will be just fine for offensive defencemen. I am particularly interested in seeing what Gelinas and Merrill can do as soon as possible, and I don't think we will see either while Zidlicky is still here.

We need offence from the points and depending on rookies to give us that production is nothing short of wishful thinking. Merrill has no space on our roster, missed too many games in the past 2 years and needs to focus on his game and becoming a pro at the other level. With that said, I want no part of Merrill on our team this year and I hope he'll stay in Albany the entire year.

As for Gelinas, he's our best option but if Larsson and Fayne got healthy scratched in favour of veterans, why would Gelinas escape that same treatment? We need to clear one of our multiple SAH dmen and resign Zidlicky on a 2 year deal.

Well, I think it depends on which veteran defencemen get traded. If one of Sal, Volch, and Tallinder gets shipped out, it might be a sign that the young guys will be given more of a chance to make the roster. I agree that Gelinas is the most likely to be the guy, and hopefully DeBoer would be smart enough to play him and let him develop into the offensive defenceman we need.

Real happy about getting a legit goal scorer. We have so many forwards who are hesitant to shoot the puck and like to pass in prime scoring areas that Ryder might "influence" the players on his line to shoot more often.

some suggestions:

Ryder should play with Elias

Ryder should not play on Kovalchuk's line

Given the fact that Ryder is a RW, we can assume he won't be on Kovy's line

Ryder should be played with Elias for sure. The centre should be either Zajac or Henrique. I'd lean toward Zajac, since Henrique will probably be played with Kovy and Loki.

2 things:

Is Clowe signed to be a top 6 guy or a 3rd liner?

Is Lokti going to play wing or center?

Those 2 questions being answered would lead to the lines on paper..

Either:

Clowe-Henrique-Kovi
Elias-Zajac-Ryder
Lokti-Josefson-Zubrus

or

Henrique-Lokti-Kovi
Elias-Zajac-Ryder
Clowe-Josefson-Zubrus

(1) He'll play on whatever line he ends up fitting best.
(2) Loktionov got traded to us for peanuts because he does not play wing.

Sykora scored 21 goals with Elias while being a horrible skater. Ryder has the agood shot like Sykora but is also a more capable skater and complete player. Would it be unrealistic to expect 20-25 maybe upwards to 30 goals?

Ahh yes, for some reason I couldn't remember if the skinny on Loktionov was what you said, or vice versa

In that case, Henri-Lokti-Kovi will probaby be in full effect.

Clowe would fit best as a third liner, I believe. Hope the dude has a triple padded helmet

I am not so sure Pete will keep Kovy at RW. Oates is the one who did that (did the same thing with Ovechkin), and last year I got the feeling that the lack of a camp and practice time prevented the coaches from doing anything drastic. This signing may be the signal that Kovy is going back to the left, which will open up the possibility of he and Ryder or Clowe playing on the same line.
