If we're out of contention, then trade whoever.

But to me, Ryder is here for one reason and that is to score goals in the playoffs.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

With the Zubrus-Zajac-Jagr line playing pretty well together, I think Pete should stick both Brunner and Ryder with Elias for a run of games and see if Patrik can get one or both of them going. In theory, putting a couple of finishers with Patrik should work well if they can develop any chemistry at all.

Brunner and Ryder shouldn't play together IMO

He's had chances, I think he's been close, but like so many he needs to finish.

And like I said at the time of the signing, given how little he is making, he almost can't be a major disappointment.

Why not?

If they had a playmaker to set them up for a shot-on-goal, they could perhaps get their offense going.

they are too similar a player. I dont like having 2 of the same guy on one line.

Ryder is bigger and has/can create his own shot. Brunner requires a ton of space to shoot. He was often deployed at the point on the Wings PP unit for example.

On paper they're ideal together but in reality it doesn't work. Probably because their similarities really are that neither can forecheck to save their lives. Meaning very little time in the offensive zone.

The problem with that is you're basically forcing our second best offensive player into a defensive role, becasue you know neither Brunner or Ryder is going to play defense on that line.

He can toe drag and cut in and out of traffic well but frequently seems to lose the puck after he pulls off a nice move

yeah.

Why do we always see OTHER teams have players who pull of moves like that and actually NOT lose the puck whereas with us, it's keystone-cops?

Bump! Any thoughts on his play recently? Second in goals scored on the team. Has a wicked snapshot. Curious to know since not much talk about him.

The guy we've seen the last two weeks is the player we expected to get when we signed him. I mean he's a pretty straight forward player. Pure goal scorer, wicked release, invisible when he's not shooting the puck.

For his salary, ~25 goals and ~40 points is acceptable to me.

Agreed. I'm happy with him.

Hope he continues on a hot streak - we'll need it with Brunner out.

Haha Glen, I had to bump it again! No Ryder appreciation thread yet that I see. He has picked up on goal scoring, leads the team in goals, and is taking a lot more shots. Also got Henrique going putting up points. The guy deserves some appreciation.

Think he has been exactly as expected. And for the price I think it is a steal.

Oddly though he scores much more in losses, 11 goals in 27 losses vs 4 in 18 wins.

And while the -7 is not pretty he has two -4 games on his ledger, so for the most part he plays pretty even at es.

Great signing. One of the best in a while, with Jagr obviously.

Playing as predicted. He's here to score and he's doing that.. a bit streaky sure, but over the course of the season he'll hit his average, probably.

Wanted him before he signed and glad he's here.

Ryder always finds a way to score 30 goals a year and for a 3.5 million cap hit he's well worth the money..
