per Bob Mac.

Congrats SLU alum Drew Bagnall on two-year deal with BUF. $550K in NHL or $275K in AHL, either way, Bags is buying the beer...well deserved.

Looks like he's a defenseman. Been in the AHL since 2007-2008.

Well, the Amerks D desperately needs depth, especially with Biega moving on. Quality vet for them.

6'3" / 220lbs, twice wore a "C" in the AHL. Nice support signing for Rochester.

Basic googling reveals:

Big defenseman. Houston's captain. Lots of PIMs, not many points.

Looks to me like a veteran defenseman for Rochester that brings grit and toughness.

Bascially, exactly what the Rochester defense needs.

Sounds like this guy will play a role in the development of all our young D, hopefully he's a hard worker.

Oh you.

Hey, at least he's putting in some time to get a guy for the Amerks on Day 1 when it is clear they're not putting in for any of the usual stupid-money UFA's out there.

Love the photo in this story:

Quote:
A good team needs a prototypical stay-at-home defenseman. The type of player who sticks up for teammates and leads by example. Captain Drew Bagnall brings all those assets to the Aeros. Bagnall, now in his third season with the team, was named captain this season and has taken the responsibility of the ‘C’ on his shoulder to heart. Bagnall has just 19 points ( 3 goals, 16 assists) in 172 career games with the Aeros, but his steady defensive play and leadership is vital to the team. Bagnall recently talked in depth about being named captain, how he fits in the organization’s system and what this young Aeros team needs to do to be successful.

Bagnall could really help out some of the younger guys with maintaining work ethic and d-zone positioning. Could be a really nice guy to pair up with Rasmus, imo.

I wonder if some of the thinking behind this has to do with trying to become tougher to play against at all levels of the organization - i.e., if you develop in a system and with guys who play a big physical game, you'll be more likely to have that ingrained when you come up to the big club.

Sounds like a good signing. I like the idea of trying to surround the kids with leaders and role models early.

And setting up a winning culture on the farm is always a plus, especially if you're worried about the kids developing into competitors.

I'm astounded by the amount of people on other boards and around the Internet that don't understand what an AHL depth signing is...

I still wish we'd retained Biega, but I'm glad Darcy is at least filling some holes in Rochester. The better that team is, the better for the kids on it.

I am cool with doing nothing, doing the rebuild correctly (trading expiring assets for futures)

just poking a little fun at the fans who are pissed off that Darcy didn't sign A, B and C

A wanted too much money, B doesn't fill an need, and let's face it... C is just average.

Given they let Tarnasky walk, that bit of extra snarl will be most welcome.

Watching his fightcard from this last season, pretty clear he goes when he feels he needs to defend a teammate. He might not start the tilts well, but boy, he stands in. Love it.

Great to hear !

That is the kind of attitude that needs to be taught/shown the young 'core'

Just missed it, but I LOVE that it's a 2 year deal.

Will be a great guy for our young Dmen to learn from.

Hey, how about that? Something useful for the organization!

Considering how beat up the Amerks were last year on the backend, another body that can show toughness is always good.
