Central Division

Figured this deserved its own thread. Out of NW Canada, at last.

Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Winnipeg.

Big fish: Chicago, St. Louis

Doormat: Stars or Preds???

Best potential rivals: Winnipeg, Dallas. We need to get better to rival with the Hawks - we know the 'Nuck drill. The potential is there though....

Expected finish: 3rd

Better division name: The Flyover division.

Winnipeg, Dallas, and Nashville aren't going to be great, but I don't think they are going be a doormat team.

Tier 1: Chicago, St.Louis
Tier 2: Nashville, Minnesota
Tier 3: Winnipeg, Dallas
Tier 4: Colorado

I only put us in the same tier with St. Louis if our young guys (or are young forwards rather) progress a lot and put up 40-50 points each playing top 6 minutes. If it's too much for them to handle and they flop we're not even a playoff team.

i just dont see how we're at the same level as STL, im not sure we are better than NSH with the free agent moves. i will pick the wild 4th in our div. again asking the young guys to score more than 15G a piece is really a hope & a prayer. i have mock projected our GF & GA and i come up with 205 GF vs 220 GA. not playoff #s to me. but anything / miracles can happen! go wild!

Ummm... what? Who is Nashville's premier offensive threat?

Depends on our kids. If they step up AT ALL I think we're #2 in the division. If they don't, we're just behind STL.

I'm pretty low on Nashville. When you have to overpay to get Eric Nystrom, that's a problem.

Not to mention, when I looked at their forwards. Their highest scorer is Matt Cullen. At least highest and most consistent.

Exactly. And we saw the effect Suter had leaving Nashville and coming to Minny.

well im glad you guys think nino, zucker, granlund & coyle are ALL going to shine next year. that our team wont have a late season meltdown. injuries wont be a problem. other bigger more physical teams wont pound us into the ground. i guess we have nothing to worry about. stanley cup here we come.

I think the games against Nashville will turn out to be those 1-0 or 2-1 games with overtimes and shootouts. They don't have even close to the same offensive arsenal as we do (and considering the problems we've had in scoring, that means their offense is awful), but they have better goaltending and defense. I wouldn't rate them very high overall, but I think we'll have some difficulties with them.

Division name sucks. I vote we call it the Norris division regardless of what the NHL wants to call it. Whos with me? And whos with me from other fan bases in the division?

The last 3rd of the season is what I'm worried about. That's usually when Koivu gets injured, one or both of our goalies have issues, and we forget how to skate, score, and put in effort.

If we can break those traditions, there's no reason we aren't in the running for 2nd in the division.

St. Louis has a tendency to go on huge streaks with inconsistent play--even moreso than us lately or at least with a wider swing between great play and horrible play. hoping that trend continues and puts us in second place.

how about you guys try what i did. on paper list the lines and realistic GF that each player is capable of. add them up. i came up w 205 GF. in the past our GA has avg around 225-230. im being generous projecting 220 GA. next go to nhl.com and look at the last few years standings teams GF vs GA and make your case why you think we will make the playoffs. thx

~70 for Parise - Koivu - Pominville
~ 45 for Nino/Zucker - Granlund - Heatley
~ 50 for Cooke - Brodziak - Coyle
~ 10 for Rupp - Konopka/Dowell - Mitchell/Fontaine

~ 15 for Suter - Brodin
~ 15 for Scandella - Spurgeon
~ 5 for Ballard - Blum/Stoner/Prosser

That's 210, which I think is fairly conservative.

Yes it's terrible; at least we're not in the Metropolitan division. They could have named them after old japanese Godzilla foes and it would have been an improvement; Mothra division ftw.

Chicago
St. Louis
Dallas / Nashville / Minnesota
Colorado
Winnipeg

How I see it shaking out.

I LOVE the Central Division.

Why?

BECAUSE WE ARE IN IT.

How can you be picky about the name of a division when we just spent 10 years playing four teams that were not in our time zone?

I agree....I'm just happy that we are out of the Northwest Division. What's wrong with the name? It fits, all these teams are in the central part of the country, geographically speaking.
