We don't necessarily want to trade him but it's probably a good move going foward. He should last year he's still a productive player and played the year without injury. That shows he's still got game but he has definatley declined and isn't the Markov of old. He tapered off big time towards the end of the year. Now may be the best time to actually get some valuable pieces back for him and unload a $5.75MM salary at the same time that we can use to pick up more depth and a shutdown D that we really need.

Fans aren't the ones making the trades, it's McTavish. As long as he sees the value he's getting in return that's all that counts.

Markov with Shultz could be an amazing tandem for the Oil who have no depth, no offense and no experience on D. All of which Markov provides along with leadership and mentorship for the young D they have coming in.

If Rivet can get a 1st rounder and Gorges imagine what Markov can fetch.
yeah yeah, markov could get quite a bit, but not to that team. they don't need another powerplay specialist - which is what markov basically is nowadays. he could help them a bit 5 on 5, could provide mentorship and experience and all that, but i don't see the oilers giving up a lit for him. im sure other teams could use his service more than they could.

and about the NTC, if there is one guy that i can see nixing a trade, it's this guy. he's rooted here, became a citizen here, and has a very russian sense of humor.

and moreover, besides paajaarvviiii, who do they have that we really, really want that could fill a need. seriously, im out of ideas... we both small, non-physical team in need of the same thing

Agreed. Liked him as a player in his one year here, has a good head on his shoulders. His reasoning is usually sound.

Dupont didn't say he knew they were shopping him, he said he would not be surprised...probably similar to Seguin in regards to his off ice behaviour plus cap hit.

I know they have Johnson on the TSN Winnipeg broadcasts, I wish I saw him more in the east. He's one of the few guys that I listen to, because as you say he thinks things through before he speaks.

I didn't hear his comment but I'd be inclined to think that Johnson understands that Bergevin is trying to zig where other GM's zag. He's playing a small ball game in front of a fanbase that wants homeruns.

We get him pretty often on the TSN Montreal broadcasts as well.

Great baseball analogy. Exactly right. I'd go as far as saying that the fact he hasn't bowed to some sort of public pressure at this point is a very good sign. Gainey clearly did when he nearly sold the farm for Lecavalier and struck out on Hossa.

Clutterbuck gets 11 over 4 years from the Isles. Not bad, considering what Nystrom and Stalberg got from Nashville.

I think MB is done, no signings are happening right now, pretty sure everyone is on vacation. The trades might come, but usually minor ones. I think Montreal will deal DD at the end of next season and Gionta will leave as a ufa.

Nope. There isn't any news either on the Jeremy Roy front, yet nobody asked for it.

I would take a chance on Gui since he will probably sign for less than 1M with his history of injuries and a disappointing season with the Sens.
Low risk signing.

Just speculation but a lot of people on the trade boards think Penner doesn't want to move outside CA. Doesn't seem like the Kings are going to keep him but maybe Anaheim will take a chance.

As for Latendresse, last I heard was from Friedman back in early June:

23. I wouldn't be surprised if Guillaume Latendresse plays in Europe next season. There is apparently some interest from Switzerland.

Seems like a lot of the "second tier" UFAs are waiting for a domino to fall before signing.

What a waste. I remember him coming up as an 18 y.o and thinking he was exactly what we needed. Makes you think the Habs really dropped the ball in developing him.

That's what happens when you don't go to the front of the net!

Nothing wrong with welcoming back Latendresse at 1M$

At least he bring size. He use it well to protect the puck. Only problem fans had with him it's that he wasnt a big hitter or a fighter. That simply never was part of his game, not even in junior.

But he is still a big body presence that would help along the wall.

This, however, does kind of turn me off. He looked like he was about to cry while being bullied by White.

Blah
One word: injuries.
In his last full season he scored 27 goals.

I think he will get a NHL offer again this year...may be his last chance though.

If we are still in the race despite us offering less money...

Maybe he really wants?
