Why do a majority of you have JVR on the top line??

do you not think the 2nd line would be better served with Kadri allowed to free-lance a little with the luxury of having two big wingers who like to go to the net

Lupul/Bozak/Kessel proved to be one of the NHL's highest scoring lines a mere two years ago and would have had 2 guys in the top 10 in scoring if not for Lupuls injury!

A fair question to ask is, why do so many of you want to break that up?

Forwards

JVR Bozak Kessel
Lupul Kadri Clarkson
McClement Bolland Kulemin
D'Amigo Colborne Orr
McLaren

*Swap out D'Amigo with McLaren for the tougher games in our Division

Defense

Gunnarson Phaneuf
Gardiner Franson
Fraser Rielly*
Holzer

*If Rielly does't make it, then we keep Liles on the bottom pairing.

Callups

Ashton
McKegg
Blacker
Brennan

Could see us moving Gunnar for a Physical right handed top 4 D man if one is available.

Bernier/Reimer
I like it, other than putting the D's on their wrong side. Granberg and Franson = Righties.

T.J. Brennan is on a one way contract so he'll be in the pressbox I guess. Actually...Holzer is on a one way as well isn't he? I wonder if he's the Reilly insurance policy? If Reilly makes it maybe they put Brennan on waivers and someone would most likely pick him up...

you seem confused, maybe you aren't but in case you are, he can still play in the A with a 1 way contract.

Lupul and Kessel made up one of the NHL's highest scoring lines two years ago but last year Lupul didn't miss a beat with Kadri (the two played together more often than not), he had great chemistry alongside him as well. JvR had chemistry with Kessel too. I'd say that JvR and Lupul are interchangeable and that you can't really go wrong with one or the other

But he's no longer exempt for waivers, no? Same with Colborne, the only window we'd have to send him down is before the season - after that, if hes recalled he'd have to stay with the big club otherwise we risk losing him on the waiver wire sending him down.

I hope we don't re-sign Fraser, one of Holzer or Marshall can play his role.

JvR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Smith/Colborne - Bolland - Kulemin
McLaren - McClement - Orr
Colborne/Smith

Defence... Its tough.

EDIT: maybe Ashton, Colborne, D'Amigo, Ross and Smith battle it out for the last spot.

was pointing out he said he's on a one way so he'll be in the press box. One has nothing to do with the other; if he's in the press box it will not be because he's on a one way.

I wouldnt mind something like:

JVR - #1C - Kessel
Lupul - Bozak - Kadri
Kulemin - Bolland - Clarkson
McClaren - McClememnt - Orr

Phaneuf - Rielly
Gardiner - Gunnarson
Fraser - #6

The idea being trade Franson for a #1 C. Something like Franson Liles and pick/prospect for Stastny or something.

Why is everyone so certain that Granberg makes the lineup? How was he last season?

Not if Nonis is comfortable with Rielly Gunnarson Gardiner and Phaneuf as a top 4 moving forward and Franson having ridiculous contract demands.

Lets us have a big body to get in front of the net on both lines, JVR was playing with those two for a bit as well and looked good.

I guess you see things differently than I do.

even if he is okay with that top 4, if he is trading a dman, there is a dman coming back, not another forward.

Yeah, I don't think the Leafs care if these guys are picked up on waivers if they don't make the team. It happens...we need as many D man as we can to choose from, the rest will go wherever else.

We will likely lose one of Holzer, Fraser or Brennan to waivers if Rielly makes the team.

Spread out the talent, aside from Bozak getting injured, and Grabovski not knowing how to play D we did pretty well against Boston scoring wise.

1-Way Contract means you get paid the same salary whether you are in the NHL or the AHL. If you make 600,000K in the NHL you will make 600,000K in the AHL if you are sent down.

2-Way Contract means you get paid a different salary depending on if you are in the NHL or the AHL. If you make 600,000K in the NHL you may make 50,000K in the AHL.

It has no effect on being claimed on waivers. Being the rich team that we are, we can hand out 1-way contracts to get the better replacement players because even if they are playing in the minors they will still be making an NHL salary.
