Weiss' will most closely resemble Larionov. Good fit, plays well on the second line or third line when they split the centers, makes people happy.

Alfie's I don't quite know, 50-60 point winger in the top 6. Not Hossa good not really as bad as the other guys.

Yzerman is Yzerman so I won't compare him to other people.

This really.

I honestly believe Alfie and Weiss can help with a deep cup run too.

I hope he puts up more than just 6 points in the season.

Guess Luc would be the best, he was playing on a bottom six line, but admittedly in name only. Also wasn't near the two way player Alfie is.

I think the closest would be Hossa, I see him as a top 6 contributor all season. Or, maybe a Larianov in the Russian Five.

Let's hope he's not a Modano.

Good old Steve Thomas. I remember I liked him so much that I'd try my hardest to score so that he'd get points in the NHL video games, but he was one of the slowest players in the game, so it was damn near impossible. I wanted to help the guy!

It's an interesting question, I'd probably say Luc Robitaille, but with a twist. Alfie won't make a huge difference, and he's not really someone who steps up when the wind blows the hardest, but he does bring a lot of experience/leadership and will be a good pointman on the powerplay combined with a solid top 6 performance. People have mentioned 50-60 points, which I'd agree with, although probably closer to 50.

I think Hossa in that he'll contribute in the top-six all season.

Funny, I don't remember Luc scoring 30 goals/ 50 points for us but that's what the stats say

If it results in a cup like Ray to COL did (correct me if I am wrong,) I will take it.

Hopefully not Wendel Clark's tenure. Remember when they traded for him I would still boo him even in a Wings jersey.

Alfredsson will most resemble Kozlov; underrated winger with solid two-way game who will likely be playing on a secondary line, and will have the opportunity to create significant offense due to opponents focusing on another line.

No, Weiss will resemble mid-90s Larionov. Versatile two-way center who provides the team with a lot of options regarding lines involving their top players.

To continue my examples, let's compare moves to the mid-90s Wings. The Wings traded Sheppard for Larionov, and Coffey/Primeau for Shanahan. Let's consider Franzen as a "substitute Shanahan" and make the deal Coffey/Primeau for Kozlov (Alfredsson). Our substitues for Coffey/Primeau are, of course, Colaiacovo and Filppula. And purely coincidentally (or maybe not?) the removed cap hits ($2.5m and $3m) line up perfectly with Alfredsson's deal ($3.5m+$2m in bonuses=$5.5m).

Brunner is our substitute Sheppard, and goes out for Weiss (substitute Larionov). Now there's a move that increases the cap hit by about $3.5m.

Now we just need to pick up a Larry Murphy for next to nothing.

Is it just me or is Iginla a more obvious choice for the Wings' needs?

Because he's a top power forward, right? Is this 2002?

2002? You do realize he scored 32 goals in 2012 and 43 in 2011? He has scored more than 30 goals for the last 11 full(non-lockout) seasons. He is younger than Alfredsson, has outproduced him every year since 05-06. He was credited with 65 hits last year(only 2 Wings' forwards had more) and is a tougher fighter than anybody on the Wings.

While I do agree with everything you said about him outproducing Alfy. I dont think hes the fighter you think he is. He is a player that plays with passion that sometimes results in him fighting and firing his team up for momentum... but I feel like hes out of place fighting and late in his career like this you would be lucky to see him drop the mitts.. hes trying to win the cup with his hands a different way. (Abby would probably dust him)

Also IMO Alfy is a better fit for Detroit than Iggy.. he reminds me of Brett Hull in his days in Detroit.. past his prime but still can be effective on the pp and play in the top 6.

He would still punch out anybody on the Wings.
Detroit has tons of small skilled forwards. He will take time away from p,ayers that might that play a similar style and at this stage of their careere may be better than Alfredsson but we will never have a chance to find out and it might even stunt their development. Babcock insists on having a bigger body on both of the top 2 lines and would love somebody "that can keep the flies off"

Because he's tougher, bigger, younger and better.

Iginla finished with 18 goals and 28 assists for 45 points in 59 games
Alfredsson finished with 14 goals, 22 assists, 36 point in 57 games

A quick glance of ice time looks similar.

Brett Hull came to Detroit following a 39 goal season.
And Abby would not even come close to "dusting Iginla."

In Alfredsson, we've got a 41 year old who produced less in more minutes than than the 27 year old we let walk away for half the money

Weiss resembles hall of famer and all-time great Igor Larionov?
Not to me he doesn't.
