I know Eberle had an "A" down in OKC, although to be fair, Hall never had the opportunity.

Except that his offense didn't always overcome his lack of defense.

His 96 season is the best example of this, led the NHL in scoring with 161 points and was a measly plus 10.

For that season Feds was more valuable than the Hart winner Mario IMO.

Think Feds had a better team behind the blueline as a whole than Mario which helped explain some of that difference.

You are entitled to your opinion just as you are entitled to be wrong.

It does explain part of the plus/minus difference sure but don't forget feds was getting top defensive assignments as well.

Basically Mario had numerous games where he piled up the points but Feds had a more consistent and overall impact on games over the season but Hart voters tend to dig the stats, without getting into them very deeply.

The major point is for a guy so dominant offensively his plus minus, or ES play was pretty ordinary, even after his team context is taken into account.

So basically they should just give the MVP to the player with the best +/- every year?

Disagree. Hall was the heart and soul of the Oilers last year and has separated himself from the rest of the 'big 4'

We have no idea what it's like in the dressing room.

O'Byrne signs with a KHL team... As I said on the main boards:

Crawford re-signs for 6 years at 6m per.

Brutal.

Yeah, I forgot how most teams really keyed on Ron Francis and left the most talented player ever to feast on their worse matchups..

I guess it's true that Lemieux never dominated the league like Marty McSorely and Marek Malik did

Meh, overpaid for sure, but Crawford is a bit underrated. He held his own during their cup run and was relied upon much more heavily than Niemi in 2010 imo. Locking up good goaltending should always be a priority.

Why draw that conclusion? Did I say that?

The point was that Mario's exceptional offense didn't make his presence on the nice as an exceptional one overall that season.

In a way it's flattering to see Mario getting the Sedin treatment...

Crawford is way too inconsistent to merit that long a deal at that cap hit. A 2-year deal at 6m would have been far more practical.

At 6 years the potential risk is a lot greater and his AAV should have reflected that.

Yeah, the term is scary, not the salary imo. 3 years, 18 mill would have been good.

Yup. Absolutely horrid deal. The term is what really brings this down, but the cap hit is terrible as well.

A Cup win can make any goalie look better than they really are though. Just ask Jonathan Quick.

Still not as bad as the Clarkson contract imo, Chicago isn't in a big cap crunch.

To think the Pens gave up Joe Morrow for a half season of him is unbelievable. That's what "going all in" does though

I suppose...but this is one where Pitt really crapped the bed.

And it seemed to me that lots of people, including many Dallas fans, felt that Morrow passed his due date a couple of years ago.

Trading for used up power forwards just seems to be such a losers game.

Morrow might stick to start the season, but I'm betting he is a press box regular by mid season.

I agree, if he can secure a fourth line spot than I would call I a good year for him. Pitt way overpaid and gets zero criticism for it. At least we went out and got a legitimate first/second line that is wanted around the league.

Waste of capsapce. If the Blackhawks are spending lots of money on goaltending they are doing everyone else a favour.
