Infract yourself, good sir.

Petan thankfully appears to have very good skating, and as evidenced by his end to end rush on that goal. His steal of the puck behind the net for the assist on that shorty shows that he knows how to position himself against bigger players along the wall. Very nice to see. This kid has very legitimate top end skills - very much looking forward to watching his progress in the W, and hope he can translate that into an NHL game.

Anyone else getting antsy about seeing our prospects in the prospect camp and the prospect tourney? Can't wait.

I'm glad the Jets took him despite of his size. This whole "bigger is better" is just ridiculous, especially in this day and age.

We dropped that style of drafting after last year, anyway. None of our draft-pick this year is bigger than 6-0 (except the swedish 7th round-pick). We went for skill and heart first over size and frame.

It's at least nice to see us expand to different types of players in the draft. I think the last couple years Chevy and co. surely targeted size in his acquisitions and such, he said as much, and now we're targeting perhaps some other areas. I think we've got some good size now throughout the organization, and it was nice to be one of the bigger teams on the ice last year (though it didn't always show).

Truthfully, the whole size thing was likely overblown, to be honest. It's not all in the size of your team, but how they play, how they approach the game, do they buy into the system and play all on one page. It runs deeper than just weight and height as numbers. If your team doesn't do all the little things necessary to make those numbers worth while, it's meaningless.

I mean, look at Boston, from this report from James Mirtle. To begin last season they ranked 26th in weight and 21st in height. That's bottom 5 of the league in weight and bottom 10 in height in the league. The Jets began the season 4th in weight and 1st in height. St. Louis ranked 9th in weight and 26th in height. Those numbers are pretty scattered but it's all in how those teams come together that makes them effective, and about the mix of players that form the team.

I'm curious what made him drop so much lower than Domi and Drouin? He seems to have a similar talent level as well as size (skinnier though).

Couldn't really tell you. Domi isn't much taller but he is stockier and Drouin is taller than both. Could be a size thing. I know lots of people thought he'd be a first rounder.

I guess the argument is that Domi and Drouin didn't have linemates as good as Ty Rattie and Brendan Leipsic.

Really though, it doesn't seem like he was just leeching goals and assists off those two.

Yah, MacKinnon and Frk were pretty much scrubs as linemates for Drouin.

At the very least, Petan looks like he'll be a lot of fun to watch on The Rock in the next few years.

Haha!

Yeah, Drouin is not a great example to advance that theory. Although simply by virtue of being older, Rattie is a probably a better junior player right now than either Frk or MacKinnon.

The first thing that popped into my head was Portland being stacked but London and Halifax were not exactly filled with scrubs. All Memorial Cup calibre teams.

As for being a leech I agree Hank he really didn't seem to be although I've only watched YouTube highlights. If anything it seems Rattie may have benefited the most from those two. He had an awful lots of tap ins and perfectly tee'd up one timers. (Rattie is a good player and a great finisher don't get me wrong)

In some of the draft threads here on the main board there were some predicting he might really surprise and go in the top 10. Obviously that's a bit of a stretch but I sure was pleased and surprised to see him sitting there for our second round pick. I didn't really think top ten was plausible but top 30 certainly was, so getting him at 43 is a big steal AFAIC.

To digress a bit, the first three rounds of the last three drafts are awfully impressive really for Chevy and crew. At least at first glance and only time will tell the true tale but geez I may not be all that excited for this coming season but three years from now? Wow.

2011
1. Scheifele - still a question mark, but big hopes
2. Lowry - looking good but still a year away
3. Serville - ok, maybe not here
and Kasdorf has promise in goal with time to develop

2012
1. Trouba - winner, winner, chicken dinner
2. Sutter - yeah not yet, but it is a Sutter so maybe that helps
3. Kosmachuk - I see me a third liner down the road we'll be pleased with
and Hellebuyck, like Kasdorf the year before

2013
1. Morrissey - a year or two out but four years down the road our D will be scary good
2. Petan - sneaky good pick methinks
2. Comrie - hey, more goalie depth - if his hip holds out we might be in real nice shape in goaltending PP*
3. Lodge - this one feels sneaky as well, a couple of years out, maybe a second liner down the road?
3. Lipon - well...we'll see

*PP = post-Pavelec

I have a feeling the jets may keep him around for a stint at the beginning of the year we could really use his talent and it may help him figure how close or far away he is to making it.

Its Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake. I guess taking out the lyrics makes it elevator/porno music

Anyways, I made the video. Can't satisfy everyone as everyone likes different music. The main reason why i add music to videos is because there is something deficient in the audio commentary - an annoying buzz, a loud hum, static or gaps with no commentary at all. Petan's had all of the above. I try to fix these up enough so that you can't really notice them past the music, but take away the music and its terrible to listen to. I also have a Morrissey video posted and that was the worst video I've worked on. I had several headaches editing it because of a loud hiss.

Enjoy Petan!

You can't satisfy everyone, thats for sure

I didn't have a problem with the music and if you don't like it you mute it, its not about the music at all, anyway.

Nevertheless I'd like to thank you for the video and for the Morrissey video, too. I probably watched it, just like many others here certainly did also. Without people like you, getting a first look at drafted players would be a lot harder. Thank you for your work and time!

That song definitely sounds strange without lyrics. Thanks for keeping the commentary in and thanks for doing a bunch of those WHL videos. If you went and recorded all the highlights I respect you a bunch more - it's a ***** to find highlights in lots of WHL games with the lack of a scoreboard at the top.

Well, I definitely appreciate the work man, I know making those videos can be a huge pain. Definitely appreciate it!

I'm just a huge stickler for audio after having worked at radio stations and recording studios for awhile. The right music bed can make or break nearly anything from splitters to commercials to an entire song.

For sports highlights I find energy has to emanate from the bed and that's not really what I got from the highlight vid. My apologies if it's your favourite music and that's what you want to use, since it's your vid and you did the work, so it's totally up to you.

If I could make suggestions. Beds from groups like Down With Webster often bring the energy and excitement factor.

(Lyrics may be NSFW)

Down With Webster - Whoa is Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6fqi1R8nN0
Down With Webster - Time To Win: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qydgBrIvyoc

Or something that has a steady rhythm that still pulls you in like:
La Coka Nostra (ft. Big Left) - 38 Revolver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ9HyPeqnLo

Electronic and Dubstep also has a lot of samples you can loop as well:
Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go - Cinema (Skrillex Remix) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiyAJxacEo0
Oh Land - Sun Of A Gun (Jacob Plant Remix) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs__1a1gbPo

Plus if it's a bother to get the bed without lyrics, as I'm guessing you'd rather have the commentary, Two Steps From Hell is a really great and easy go to.

Two Steps From Hell - Heart of Courage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRLd...436A3FC627F4B6
Two Steps From Hell - Protectors of the Earth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASj81daun5Q

Man, that Morrissey video was sweet! Loved the choice of music as well, can never go wrong with Daft Punk.

Keep up the great work.

Semi related:

I recall reading something about Lipon and how he was passed over twice - apparently he was 5'9 in his first year of draft eligibility. He is near 6'0 now.

Of course that wasn't the only reason he was passed over and not every kid adds an inch or two between 17-20, but it isn't impossible that Petan could do it.

Then again, his big brother Alex remains 5'8 and he is 21.

Thanks & yes, you're right, i'm a big Breaking Bad fan. I've watched all five Seasons and i'm really eager to see how it all turns out. If i'm not mistaken the final "season" starts in August?!? Can't wait!

I highly recommend Dexter and Homeland. They're both great series, but Breaking Bad is definitely my favourite.

No, not yet. I was never really into this stuff, but over the last 8-9 months i've watched Breaking Bad, Dexter and Homeland, so i'll give The Wire and The Sopranos a try.
