By all BTN metrics Marleau was the Sharks' best PKing forward this year, and Burish was the worst.

Hopefully Hertl impresses at camp and gives DW every reason to send Burish to Worcester. lol

why would you want him to be sent to worcester? where he would still be costing the sharks 950k in cap space.

just do what sjeasy said and trade him. its pretty easy to trade burish types.

It would be one awful discount to give him an NMC at that cost.

I don't think trading him is as easy as people think. He's not on the last year of his contract and nobody is going to commit close to two mil the next three years for average 4th line play. Sending him to Worcester is probably their most realistic option going into the season or whenever Havlat gets healthy.

Burish-types usually make about 800k-1 mill so he's overpaid by 800k-1mill. They also usually get 1-2 year deals while Burish got 4 freaking years. The Sharks would have to throw in a pick in order to maybe get someone to bite. Why would someone want Burish for 1.8 mill when they probably have plenty of guys who can replicate his production making <1 mill?

I dunno about anyone else, but I like seeing that we're in a division with Calgary and their "better than Pavelski" Backlund and their "better than Vlasic" Brodie.

@Audio Outlaw: 1-way doesn't mean he can't be sent down, it just means that he's paid the same down there as up here.

We would be stuck with havlat even if he didn't have the NMC, it is nearly impossible to move injured players in this league (unless it is just a cap thing and the team doesn't actually have to pay him)

I think it would be easy to move Havlat if he was so seriously hurt that he was for sure done for the year or longer. Islanders would take him, put him on LTIR, collect the insurance money, and pay out much less than the cap floor. lol

Catch-22 though, if he wasn't injured, we probably wouldn't move him heh.

lol probably not. I doubt DW would even try if he was with his NMC until it was his last season.

Other than offensive zone finish, none of those stats really say much of anything regarding the pk. Corsi is useless as it counts blocked shots as negative corsi. PDO includes shooting percentage which is also ridiculous.

Here are the other stats that actually matter for the PK

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/rati...p&sortdir=DESC

and

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/rati...p&sortdir=DESC

TOI, Shots allowed per 20, and Fenwick allowed per 20. Although it is a short sample size, Burish actually was in the top 3 on the team in regards to the pk in everything that actually mattered. In reality I'd say he is second best.

With Niemi in net, save percentage while on is also a valuable stat for the Sharks on the pk as their focus tends to be stopping cross crease passes. This is where Burish didn't do so well.

I think with a player like Burish, this is an example of how these advanced stats are flawed.

He brings intangibles that BTN doesn't measure, like grit, leadership, and he's a pest with that sandpaper factor that teams hate to play against The stats actually don't show how much he sucks offensively. It's pretty damn clear he shouldn't be playing in the NHL. Have to blame Doug on this one.

That's where the Burish hate goes a little too far. He's not an AHL player, he's just an overpaid 4th line NHLer. He's getting paid close to 3rd line money to be a run-of-the-mil 4th line guy.

Saying he's an average 4th liner is doing him a kindness... Below-average overpaid 4th liner is more like it. Although, honestly, if Burish were paid $800k for 2 years I wouldn't have too much of an issue.

Has anyone validated the comments in the Havlat injury thread that he is skating and expect to be ready for the beginning of the season? That is good news if true.

Anyone notice that his comments came at about the time the Olympic agreement was reached. I think he is positioning for a roster position at this point, thats all.
