You know, that's a good point. And I think it probably correlates to whatI said above in the #5 seed has never made it to the finals. That's probably because they usually end up playing a better team than their seed suggests.

Yeah, that would mean going to NHL.com to dig up the numbers. Yuck

I am sure fans here would find something to complain about, even if wilson were to trade burish, pavs + 3 1st round picks for crosby and malkin.

Perron to Edmonton.

Burns/Thornton is going to wreak havoc on that top-6 this year.

OK, so lets switch gears for a moment. What would you guys think of offer sheeting a prospect like Drew LeBlanc from Chicago? Two years, 1.6 M means it would only be a 3rd round pick. Make it a one-way deal and he might consider it. If Chicago matches, then they can't bury him in the minors (well not completely).

Something like that would be low risk on our end, low probability of not matching but if they don't, we have more forward depth with upside.

God, why? Chicago signed him for free. He's not NHL-ready.

If we're gonna offersheet a prospect, let it be Gustav Nyquist.

So we basically could have traded Galiardi and a 2nd for Perron?!?

Neither am I, but it's a win-win trade for the Sharks.

The Blues get worse, which is good because they're our competition.

The Oilers get even softer, so Thornton and Burns can wreck absolute havoc on them.

(I'm not changing my tune on hitting, I'm talking about puck protection and momentum).

Still, I'd have sent them Wingels and a 2nd for Perron :\

OK, Nyquist then. Do you think it would be a reasonable thing to try, offersheeting a young forward while keeping it to a 3rd (or absolute most a 2nd) for compensation> Given our current lack of depth in system, I think its worth a go (but we would have to be prepared to drop someone into minors for cap reasons, once Havlat comes back).

With rumors of Marchand do you guys think he would be a good fit in San Jose? I've always liked him as an agitator with scoring skills.

What do you think it would take to get him?

Pavelski? Would it be worth it?

Don't get me wrong I think Pavelski is the more skilled player, but Marchand is 3 years younger and signed for three more years than Pavs at 4.5M, where Pavs should be getting a raise after next season which I'm guessing will be around 5.5M or more. And that is assuming we can resign Pavs with him being a UFA and all.

The problem with that is most teams won't let them go for a 3rd, so they'll just match. If you pay too much, and they don't match, it's probably for a good reason.

The best offer sheets that work, which is rare, is a cap strapped team who can't afford a good players next contract and they have ready to go (cheaper) replacements.

Hell, I'd offersheet Nyquist at $3M and happily give a 2nd rounder. Nyquist is a Datsyuk-like type of player in the offensive zone, and this team doesn't have nearly enough dangles. Nyquist deserves top-6 minutes with good players, or at least top-9 minutes with a player like Pavelski. Plus, the Wings are drowning in forward depth, both in the NHL and on the farm, so it's not like they absolutely need him.

Torres-Thornton-Burns
Marleau-Couture-Hertl
Nyquist-Pavelski-Kennedy

Looks really solid to me.

I've personally never been all that big on Perron but that's a pretty weak return even if Paajarvi has potential.

Doesn't matter. With the Rask signing, Bruins are over the cap by over a million, so they would be looking for a cheaper replacement.

We have a slightly used, but very good quality Wingels then.

Or a very low quality Burish...

Well that definitely explains why they are looking to trade a young good player (with a reasonable cap hit) that seemed to work well in their system. Should be interesting to see what they do next.
