Has to be, because he was referring to the same player whichever day he went on the radio.

Seriously, a "big name" to us and a "big name" to JR could be two different things. Probably are, actually.

like others have said, this is all most likely not a big deal. it's just a fun pass time pretty much. i'm not making judgements regarding who i think would be a good pick-up but merely guessing who they may add if anyone at all.

in addition to what i said before, grabo just got bought out and the price may fit the budget. he can play wing and is fast and would likely play more than in toronto. nice quiet place for his young family. 'MAYBES' that's all. at the end of the day there really isn't that much difference btw. him and jagr if he ends up playing well in a hockey sense, which you are focusing on.

Also this.

It was fun to speculate.

(Of course, he could still be lying to throw everyone off the trail, but that feels less and less likely.)

Upgrading the defense was once melichar and babs. It should be assumed big fa would be something
different to us.

brunner seems pretty good to me but doesn't really fit the 'grit'. fast with soft hands and a potential of 20 and 20. 27 yr. old r.winger that has just been adapting to the nhl. might be asking a bit much however, though he'll likely get it. personally i'd like to see scoring talent over grit. finding a gritty guy that can contribute offensively is difficult and matt cooke is gone.

Doesn't Morrow seem unlikely, given that Gleason is a leader of the team?

Then again, maybe Gleason is the guy JR is looking to get rid of...!

Are you thinking of ott? Or did morrow have trouble with him too?

Oh they fought because of it. I think this kind of thing gets overrated. It would be one thing if it was ott. I highly doubt there would be any issues if we had gotten edler either. I'd still want him, and would have no problem with Gleason moving on obviously.

Jonathan Stout ‏@jastout89
Mason Raymond's agent, J.P. Barry, said there have been no discussions with the Hurricanes. @CanesCountry

Stout was the author of the Canes Country article with Jagr's agent.

Mark Armstrong ‏@ArmstrongABC11
Traded emails with Ron Hainsey's agent, said he's spoken with many team's about his client. 'Not sure Canes have room for a guy like him.'

Mark Armstrong ‏@ArmstrongABC11
The interesting thing re: JR's 'mystery' free agent is that Matt Keator reps both Hainsey and Mike Komisarek. We know Komi selected Canes.

Mark Armstrong ‏@ArmstrongABC11
Hainsey's slightly deflated price tag matches what @ice_chip said (~3.5). Canes would need to make some room, but it seems to add up.

Still don't think it's Hainsey. I think JR is set on the defense for now, for better or worse.

Yes, and we are going to draft Nichushkin because he has the same agent as Semin

The thing you would infer from those tweets matches what we're starting to find from process of elimination: Hainsey is the mystery man.

Which would mean moving out a defenseman, because not only do you need cap space but also a roster spot for him. The guys who would seem most-eligible for movement are Pitkanen and Gleason (I'm assuming Harrison is in the plans due to his price tag and leadership role) and I doubt JR would be reckless enough to sell low on Pitkanen.

So by this dubious line of reasoning, JR is/was shopping Gleason to see if he could get a decent return and bring in Hainsey to fill the gap.

He does, and moving Pitkanen leaves you with a defense consisting of Sekara, Komisarek, Gleason, Harrison and likely Hainsey. I'm not sure I like leaving Faulk as the only real offensive defenseman. Puts too much pressure on Ryan Murphy.

It's either not Hainsey or it's not happening if it is Hainsey.

Is Gleason -> Hainsey even much of an upgrade if at all? Hainsey is 32 and hasn't scored since the Thrashers existed.

This. Hainsey doesn't really fit. The only way I see him making our team better is if we move out Harrison.

You have me confused. I told you my two points after you put words in my mouth. I originally told you that you are enthralled with Jagr, which is quite obvious.
