Sweatt started off well with that 50-point year in his first season pro ... and just never developed from there.
As others have said, classic tweener - mentality of a scorer without the skills (save for his skating ability), skills of a checker without the grit. Looked a lot smaller than his listed size on the ice, too.
Will be a good player on the bigger rinks in Europe, but it's been obvious for quite some time now that he wasn't going to be an NHL-calibre player.
It is too bad because he would've been a useful piece to have on the farm though, no matter what you think of his future as an NHL'er. Ah well, good luck to him.
Yeah. I don't even really view him as much of a 'prospect' at this point, but he would've been a useful farm hand in Utica as a guy who has been around the AHL with reasonable results for a few years now. A 'young' Vet who they could've used in different roles on the team, and a somewhat 'proven' guy for young guys to play with. We'll still need a mix of those sort of guys.
But oh well. There are plenty of serviceable AHL 'tweener' wingers out there. And like i said earlier, it's probably a smart career move for him...as his speed may allow him to carve out a nice career on the big ice across the pond.
