This is kind of good I guess, but I hope none of the Sun guys lose their jobs.

I hate them with a passion, but you never want to see someone lose their job.

The title is slightly misleading. They are closing down those free newspapers that they give out: 24 hours. They are not closing down the Ottawa Sun.

Ah OK.

That's kind of what I suspected, but they didn't really word it very clearly IMO.

Fitting.

It's just the free daily guys. The "24 hours" you can pick up gratis at your local bus stop/street corner. Not a big loss. They wouldn't dream of closing the actual Edmonton/Calgary/Ottawa Sun.

A mod should change the title. Very misleading.

Changed the title myself. Sorry about that, didn't think about it when I made the headline.

As for the actual papers, I believe in 5-10 years they will be gone.

As long as they leave the sunshine girl and gratuitous T&A shots in the paper, I'm cool with the changes.

I HATE the Sun girl placement.

It's always next to the article I want to read. Fine of course, except I usually read the paper outside and people must look at me like I'm some sort of pervert.

to me this is th best part, I can leer at the SG and people think I am reading MLB box scores. If the SG was beside the classifieds or entertainment sections than my cover would be blown.

Oh no, the loss of a daily entertainment newspaper with escort ads, how will we cope?

I find the Sunshine Girls are either a hit or a miss.

Sometimes you get the grenades, such as today. Her face was not great. At all. I looked for like two seconds then looked away. However, sometimes you get an absolute bombshell. I mean a nice face with a great body. I saw one a few weeks ago with crazy jugs and a nice face. She was awesome.

As hard as it is for us hyper-literate, message board types to believe, the Sun still has a dedicated readership that continues to make the Sun papers their news preference. Even if the physical papers die in 5-10 years, I doubt the entire Sun franchise would disappear along with them. They're just shifting focus from the tactile newspapers to digital media. This is happening everywhere. The expanding digital opportunities for news may see some people who've lost their jobs be able to transfer them to the new outlets. Either that or the new jobs will be filled with new (read, less expensive) blood.

I shudder at the prospect of, one day, having to actually buy proper toilet paper.
