The Habs might have overachieved in the regular season last year, but I think they should still be in the top 3 conversation for 13-14. They did not have any really notable departures, and have added Briere who can still contribute in a limited fashion.

Maybe the biggest thing for me is that Price had a crappy year last year stats-wise (2.59 GAA, .904%), and still won 21 games in 39 starts. If he can improve his stats, there is a good chance the habs finish up there in the standings.

Personally, I think the Habs are terrible.

Overachieved like crazy last year.

The only reason the habs even made it to second place is because boston decided to lose its last game against us so that they could face the leafs.

Anyways, here is my prediction:

1. Boston
2. Detroit
3. Ottawa
4. Toronto
5. Montreal

I do agree they overachieved, but not to a crazy level. They still have top 5 goal tending, solid D and improving set of forwards.

Boston makes it, then the next two spots it will be a dog fight between ottawa, montreal, tml and detroit.

The only solid d they have is emelin i believe. The moment he went down, the team started to stink defensively. Why do you think they started to lose a lot of games in the last half of april. The teams defense made price look like an average goalie.

If you mean a physical D then yes. Emelin is their top D. But they still have Subban, Markov, Gorges who are good at what they do. Now throw in Tinordi and Diaz and it's a pretty solid group. I'd say maybe even better than ours if Karlsson doesn't return to his Norris form.

I think the top 3 will be:

Detroit
Boston
Toronto

The Sens should make it as a wild card.

The top two spots can go either way in favor of boston and detroit. The top 3rd spot and the wildcard spots will just be a battle between toronto, montreal and ottawa. Add tampa bay to that mix as well if they fix there defensive issues. Tampas bays offense is stacked imo. They were 5th in the league for goals for. The only reason they missed the playoffs was because of there awful defense and there average goaltenders. With a good defense and with bishop, i could see them fight for the top 3rd spot as well. Florida will no doubt be near the bottom of the division. Buffalo will also be at the bottom of the division.

Anyways, as it stands at this current point, i could see either ottawa, montreal or toronto taking the third spot being that all three teams have the capability to make it into the top 3.

LOL Carey Price is not a top 5 goaltender.

I agree to a certain extent. When he is on fire, he will stop almost anything. When he is cold though, he will let anything in. He was awful during the last half of april and during the playoffs. He is still a good goalie, it is just that he needs to work on some things before he can becomes a dependable goalie. As of right now though, i do not see price leading the habs to the stanley cup championship any time soon. He can lead the team to the playoffs i have no doubt about that, but i do doubt that price will be able to lead the habs past the first round.

Where would detroit and ottawa have to be placed in order for that to happen?

1. Ottawa

3. Toronto

Detroit and Montreal will be competing with Philly for the wildcard spots.

2 & 3 or One of the division leaders and the right wild card.

At this point in time, on paper, the Ottawa Senators look like a top 5 team in the league

Obviously a lot can happen but I'm very confident going into the 2013-2014 season
