None of our top players would possibly get traded in a salary dump besides Ruutu, and even he is productive enough where we can find a team to give us an NHL asset for him. A Pitkanen trade only makes sense at the deadline, and a Skinner trade might be possible next year if we still need more young defensemen. But until then, keep up the pipe dreams, everyone!

PS. The dump is more likely to do with some scrub like Kevin Westgarth for future considerations than anything major

Not if you saw any of the world championships.

I hope skinner is traded though.

Drayson Bowman actually makes quite a bit of sense to Dallas. They could probably add another winger to create competition on the third line.

Bowman, Roussel, MacDermid, and Garbutt would probably battle it out for the 3rd and 4th LW spot. Dallas is essentially set at RW and C.

They don't have a ton of cap space, but this easily makes sense. What about a likely NHL ready bottom 6 C/RW on a two-way contract rather than a pick? Colton Sceviour for Bowman.

I'd hate to see him moved before he finally get his shot in the NHL, but he's not a guy Nill drafted. I wouldn't be shocked if that happened.

How have none of these teams signed a fast player like Raymond while Clowe has a ridiculous contract?

That wouldn't clear much cap room, only $750,000

Trading Skinner for Gormley would free up $4,410,000

Jagr for 1m base and a 2.5m bonus for playing 10 games (something similar to the Iginla contract) then most of his hit transfers to next year when the Cap is projected to be as high as 75m.

our PP, besides the injuries, was probably the biggest reason we fell flat on our face... Adding Jagr to the PP alone will be worth his contract... Pretty sure Jagr getting 35 points in 40 games last year would put him in the top 3-4 scorers on nearly every team in the league

But trading years of Skinner for one year of Jagr is ridiculous. It's not as if this is an organization flush with top prospects and just Jagr away from another Cup. Now back to reality.

Maybe Jagr, but my money is on Grabo. JR loves the ex-Leafs.

How about Volchenkov... he's exactly what the Canes need, or any of the remaining 28 other teams in the league for that matter.

We'd take him, but we'll have to give Ruutu's contract back. It would be a net cap dump for the Canes, we'll do it, maybe give a fifth rounder your way to balance the deal.

To Carolina:

Anton Volchenkov (3 yrs/$4.25M per)

To Devils:

Tuomo Ruutu (3 yrs/$4.75M per)
5th Round Pick 2014

Net Salary Transfer: $500,000/yr to Devils (equivalent of an AHL Call-Up, i.e. 5th Round Pick)

If Lou could pull this off... I'd walk all the way to his office (I live in Montreal BTW) and kiss his feet.

David Pagnotta ‏@TheFourthPeriod - Rutherford said he's talking to a UFA willing to sign a 1yr deal for less $... It's the "less $" part that leads me to believe it's not Jagr

It's a prime example of a trade of equals: Canes need defense right now and a future spot for Lindholm (or a new top-6 piece), and the Devils get the perfect Clarkson replacement and a spot for NHL-ready D prospects. Equivalent contracts and ages.

The only way Carolina needs defense right now is if they move a dman.

Gleason Sekera
Pitkanen Faulk
Harrison Komisarek
Murphy

Defense prospects are not like top-6 forward prospects, they need more time for conditioning. I personally would assign Murphy to the AHL and wait until next year to promote him, if Pitkanen and/or Komisarek leave next year. Having Gleason, Volchenkov, Komisarek, and Harrison rotate the 4-7 spots would give us a LOT more security on D than in the past.

True... but would you pay over $4 mil on someone you would be rotating out every now and then? If you're being paid $4 mil+ you should be in the top 4, and Volchenkov would not be.
