So, no. I don't view Wang as the reason the Isles did not get a new arena. He offered up both a privately funded project and a publicly funded project.
It is true that Nassau politicians are impossible to deal with. Things develop here at a glacier's pace. But it is also true that Wang's privately funded project was a village that he tried to muscle through the TOH. It was way too big for the area.

Heck, we can go even further back than that...there are quotes from Bill Torrey suggesting that the Isles need a new Coliseum (or at least a significant renovation) and Pickett and Torrey worked with then-NC exec Gulotta on a feasibility analysis on building a new arena or adding seats. That was 1991. And alot of us know that, even when the Coliseum first opened, it was never really "completed" in the first place. The county has really never been that jazzed up about the franchise...and I think Wang did plenty to try and get something done there.

And as payback, nassore will let NYI out of the lease a year early. NYI to Brooklyn in 2014. Has to be. It all makes sense now.

Also, I should open a cheese shop. I'd get rich with all the whine around here.

I turned the press conference off after hearing Mangano say "we'd like to thank MSG..."

Very glad to hear Ratner won and MSG lost!

I really hope Ratner takes a page from MSG's proposal and moves our farm to the Coliseum now.

Shocked and elated! Of course, this news doesn't mean that anything actually gets done...

Any chance the Islanders play a few years in BK while they redo Nassau and they eventually move back? I know they have that 25 year lease with Ratner in BK but I'm sure they can work something out.

Well, at least we won't have the Rangers ahl team , playing at tbe Coliseum.

Now I want to see how Wang/Ratner, convince the nhl to let the isles play 6 games , in a 13,000 seat arena. When the idea was first reported, a couple of league sources scoffed at the idea.

I suppose this could happen, but I sincerely doubt that it does. Please people, don't go clamoring for this to happen because it is extremely unlikely.

I heard a "rumor" about this scenario back in March. That Ratner was going to redevelop the Coliseum, thew Islanders would only play in BK while it was redeveloped then move back. I don't believe it though... the seating will be less in the redeveloped Coliseum then in BK.

If they can play 41 games in a 14,000 seat arena in Brooklyn, they can play 6 games in a 13,000 seat arena in Nassau.

And as someone else stated, it came down money. Ratner was the highest bidder:

I think it's the league's decision at this point. I don't believe arena capacity will be a factor, just the fact that the NHL won't like the idea of a team having more than one home arena.

We might have Bridgeport playing here instead:

"Estimated 50 concerts, 6 Islanders games, 1 Nets game, 38 minor league hockey games, and more for a total of 309 estimated events."

From IPB Ratner proposal : http://islanderspointblank.com/islan...ssau-coliseum/

Brooklyn has 100 luxury suites and premiuim seating, compared to 31 luxury suites at the NVMC.

The NY Times said this would bring in an extra $35m per season.Wang is getting part of that $35m per.

How many luxury suites will be built in the new arena? How much of that luxury suite money would be offered to Wang?

No chance. They can't renovate the Dumpiseum to include enough luxury boxes and club seating to make it financially worthwhile and a brand new arena for same is too costly especially since the corporate partnerships and support is greater in Brooklyn. (Not to mention the lack of infrastructure and lack of mass transit in nassore)

Ratner said 2 years ago a capable NEW building wouldn't happen in nassore because of the financing and poor economy and what was mentioned above.

Don't even put the cart before the horse here as nassore's finest corrupt politicians can still kill this or parts of it. Gotta look out for the traffic and goats ya know. Then there's NIFA.

Brooklyn has 14,500 seats.

Wang told the press he expected another 500 seats to be added.

Bettman spoke at the same Brooklyn presser, saying he expected 500-1000 more seats to be added, bringing the total to 15,000-15,500.

Could be an ECHL team too, no?
