If Ekblad is gone by the time we pick then I hope we trade the pick. It's time to end this rebuild.

Ok, other than our first rounder which the Oilers might trade. What other prospects intrigue in the later rounds intrigue you or are a good fit with this teams need.

Do guys like Nikita Scherbak listed at 6'2 RW fit that bill

Brendan Lemieux of the Barrie Colts is an interesting possibility. Apparently he's rising up the draft lists though and likely to go in the late first or second round.

He's Claude's son and brings a very similar game to what his dad brought. But with him scoring at nearly a PPG, he isn't just a shift disturber. From what I've seen so far this season, he doesn't shy away from driving the net and has got a pretty good release on his shot.

He'd go well with Moroz, Khaira, Pitlick, Chase, Ewanyk, Horak and Lander in the search for solid checking forwards to compliment our core. Though I honestly don't see him slipping by Roy and the boys in Colorado too many times.

What can you guys tell me about Leon Draisaitl. Big centreman, that is what this team needs and of course defense but I would trade Yak for that. Of course he is going to take a few years but we do have Gagner signed and MacT promised not to trade him.

Does Dal Colle play as a centre in the OHL? According to eliteprospects he's 6'2 C.

Dal Colle is a bull who uses his natural talents well. He's got an imposing frame and already shows great balance and strength on his skates. He plays a two-way game, battles hard and displays quick hands for his size. (August 2013)

Canada U18 Hlinka Memorial 5gp 2+2=4 4PIM -1
Yes please.

I have not seen them this year, but I'm pretty sure he plays wing. Regardless, he could be a good fit with the team. If we draft out of the top 3 (doubtful), he, Perlini, or Ritchie could add a missing element to our top 6.

What, save KLowe from making one of the worst signings of his career?

The Flames and Jets are falling like stones. Oilers should end up in that 4-5 draft position. I really expect the pick to be moved once Ekblad is out of reach.

I'm going to put in my vote here for Jake Virtanen, someone I don't see mentioned very much (plays on the Calgary Hitmen, like Greg Chase). Big, skates well (1st step needs to improve), has a good shot, plays a physical, aggressive style, and from an interview I saw him give, he realizes he needs to be good defensively first (and this is speaking as a winger). He is exactly what the team needs in the top 6 -- big bodied player with skill who plays a hard nosed, north - south game:

Reminds me of this article about Seth Jones from last year. The money quote

Quote:
I've highlighted the players who also had similar goalscoring, and find it very interesting that both of those players were identified by Pronman as anomalies because of their ability to make a quick transition to the NHL.
Ekblad's 14 goals ties him with Jones for the most among the group and if I've done my math right, the most GP he'll have is 58.

I'm hoping Calgary gets Aaron Ekblad.

It sure would make the battle of Alberta better.

Yea better as in they rebuild more successfully I suppose. They got 3 games at hand so I am hoping we lose, no offense to the people who want us to win. We get Ekblad we're made in the shade in a few years for quite some time.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the Oilers getting Aaron Ekblad. At the start of the year the effort was just adequate but now the team is playing like they want to go on a big winning streak.

We have a steep last half a season, I don't anticipate we get on many winning streaks. We haven't played Minni yet and those are guaranteed losses.
.
I see about 2 wins for the rest of the month against WPG and NSH. I seem to be time lost haha.

Just imagine if they get both Ekblad and McDavid.

I say it right now that they'll win a Stanley Cup before we do.

Calgary will probably finish 29th while Edmonton will probably finish between 28th and 26th. Only way we're getting Ekblad is if we win the lottery or package our pick and make a trade with Buffalo.

Nurse-Ekblad

Unfortunately, it looks like Calgary got this on lockdown. Not even the Oilers can out-tank that sad group.

Why would you want Calgary to get Ekblad? They're already better than us and we've been "rebuilding" for years. We need all the help we can get.

Calgary has a better track record against west teams and east teams than us. They have games at hand currently as well. Odds are in our favor.

I'd say we have the more difficult of the two last half schedules.

Would you trade say the 5th pick and Yakupov to draft Ekblad? (+)

Without question. 1D >> 1 RW long term. Since we have 2 of one and not 1 of the other, I most certainly would.
