So is Perron a LW or Center? Hockey DB has him as a center, i was trying to find his faceoff stats and hits but have been unable to track that down. If he is indeed a center, I wonder if this opens the Oilers up to move Gagner for a LW

He's a left winger, that's all he ever plays on the Blues from what I've seen!

Or for Smith. Either way, it's not going to be as tough, imo, to find another body for the 3rd and 4th line, the Oilers are a better team today.

I'd prefer Greening over Smith anyway given that we already have Gordon.

Shame that even after acquiring Greening, we'd be looking for another responsible winger for what should be our shutdown line now that Paajarvi's gone.

Morrow/Raymond/Cleary/ Gordon / Jones
Smyth / Smith/Lander/Wellwood / Brown
Joensuu

Petry Smid
J.Schultz Ference
Belov N.Schultz/Coburn

This Perron move is definitely a weird one in my mind.. MacT has repeatedly said that he wants a physical presence in his top 6 LW spot... I guess in a perfect world he would still go get that guy and Perron would play LW on the third wing.

Here is what our forward line up looks like right now.

Perron-RNH-Eberle
Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Jones-Gordon-Hemsky
Smyth-Anton/Lander-Brown/Jonesuu

This is what I hope it would look like

xxx-RNH-Eberle
Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Perron-Gordon-xxx
Smyth-Anton-Brown
Lander/Jonesuu

A power forward for the top 6LW spot and a Hemsky replacement for the 3rd line RW spot.

As it stands right now, man do our 3rd and 4th lines look terrible. Top 6 looks good though.

Hall - Gagner - Yakupov
Perron - Nuge - Eberle
Smyth/Eager - Gordon - Hemsky
Joensuu/Brown - Lander - Jones

Hemsky will more then likely be dealt for what I think will be a package of a 3rd line winger and a 4th line center.

Top 6 is set.
3rd line is x - Gordon - Jones
4th line is Smyth/Joensuu - Lander - Brown/Eager

Top 4 is set.
3rd pair between Schultz/Belov/Potter/Larsen

The bottom of both forwards and defense needs addressing.

Does this make Lander trade bait? No Omark, No Paajarvi, No Hartikainen... Poor guy has no buddys left.

I think Lander can be a perfect Eakins guy... certainly has the drive ..

So has everyone given up on Nick Schultz? The guy came to a new season without a training camp (didn't play during lockout), first time NHL head coach, played with an offensive rookie d-man, and possibly didn't cope well with a compressed schedule.

I have a feeling he'll do better this season with fewer minutes.

If we retain half of Hemsky's salary, would Toronto give us Kulemin? I would be happy with Hemsky leaving for one of Greening or Kulemin.

I'm still comfortable taking a punt on Mason Raymond as a 3LW. He's not the savviest offensive player, but he's fast, hustles and tends to keep the puck in the opponent's end (without much end product, really).

I think Raymond would be a nice MPS replacement. Same sort of player..Raymond being smaller though of course.

If Edmonton was to sign him though you would think he would be asking for 3+ million and after that trade they only have 7mil in space left.

So a Hemsky move without retaining any salary would be imminent if they sign any other UFAs..

I'm comfortable with Nick.

I think, more than anything, it was Krueger's system that was making him look so bad. The wingers played too high up, the way we set up in the neutral zone made it so that teams dumped the puck in all the time, and we were playing a man-to-man defence.

Schultz isn't particularly strong or aggressive. His best attributes are his stickwork, defending the rush and his positioning. Krueger's system nullified his best attributes and highlighted his worst attributes.

I'm fine with paying him too much money--if he accepts it'd be a one year deal.

Hmm he is only 30... I thought the guy was in his mid\late 30s..
In any case if N.Schultz will get a baby sitting role again.. Klefbom, Belov or J.Schultz..
So he better show he can handle it or be ready for a trade call..
He is decent all around but not great at moving the puck, clearing the crease, winning the battles in the corners, hitting or scoring.. A good 3rd line to keep around ..

I wouldn't be opposed to trading Gagner to a bottom feeder 2015 1st+. Could potentially be Connor McDavid.

Then make an offer for Grabovski.

That's a grittier top 6.

Hall-Grabo-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle.

So there were rumblings out of Minny that Konopka is available, he's not a 3rd liner, but would add to the depth and toughness, maybe something small?

To MIN: Curtis Hamilton

To EDM: Zenon Konopka

Swedes speak English just fine, so I think that's less of a problem that e.g. Russians who may have much more of a hard time communicating.
