Perron-RNH-Eberle.
Last thing we need to looking at is future prospects.

NHL players > picks

I honestly believe that we don't need to add another Dman. Personally I say we give Klefbom a shot and let the defense grow. 19th in goals allowed last year with the addition of Ference is bound for improvement. Plus I think Dallas Eakins will get the young forwards to play defensively. I say we trade N.Schultz and start the year like this:

Ference Schultz
Smid Petry
Klefbom Belov
Potter

Also, let's offer sheet Clifford.

Picks (not our number 2!)
Just because we dont know them does not mean they suck..
Both Joensuu and R.Hamilton can make a strong case for #3LW spot.. Jones should be a decent #3RW
Lander should atleast be good enough to be a bottom 6 winger.. if not C.

Trade Hemsky for a guy like Gaustad and we are set IMO.

Latendresse screams at me as a player the Oil need to grab. Would look good beside Gordon - with someone like Mat Halischuk on the other side.

After looking more into our cap situation, if MacT can not move Hemsky without retaining cap hit than Edmonton is going to be pretty tight.

Currently CapGeek has Edmonton with 7.6mil in cap room after the Perron deal.

Lets assume Gagner comes at 4.5-5mil a year. That leaves Edmonton with 2.5-3 mil to spend and they still need a couple more guys..

Couturier would be an amazing fit now.

Hall-Couts-Yak
Perron-RNH-Eberle

Now that we have Perron, Gagner makes even less sense.

You forgot Nick Schultz and Smyth are expendable.

Traded away the 2014 2nd that you would need to do it.
Plus I'm not sure if they changed it with the new CBA but only certain types of RFAs are offer sheet eligible I believe? Not sure though..

What do you mean expendable? Nobody is going to trade for those guys.. You could buy them out but than a portion of their cap hit would still be with the team.

You're absolutely right, and I'm actually a big fan of Joensuu - I think he kind of made Paajarvi expendable.

I was talking about the pieces we currently have (Brown, Eager). Those should be for sale, and if we could package that with a pick and get something that's useful for this team (#4C please for the love of holy cheese), then we should.

While the flyers have the depth to part with Couturier, I doubt MacT has the cajones to do it. To big of a pipe dream unfortunately.

Smyth's contract end next year when RNH requires an extension.
Schultz' ends when Yakupov needs an extension.

??? Perron is a LW... How does that make Gagner expendable?
Couts might be better than Gagner in the future (maybe) but he isn't right now so that would make Edmonton a worse team next year... A lot of people forget that Gagner is only 6 months older than Eberle... Lots of room to grow still..

Typically players develop a more rounded defensive game as they get older. Gagner seems to be getting the offensive side of things done, now he just needs to improve his defence.

Yeah, that is nice. But I am more talking about this year. The cap is expected to rise to 70 million next year now as well so that doesn't worry me much at all.

But this year there are still holes in Edmonton's line up and the way things are laid out right now it looks like they are going to be right up against the cap.

Gagner needs to sign. If anything he just got more valuable. Yaks and Perron are snipers. Need a skilled playmaker between those two.

Come on gags, sign on the dotted line.

And for the pieces on the shopping list that we should purchase:
Ales Hemsky to Nashville for Rich Clune (upgrade on Mike Brown) and Paul Gaustad (#3/4 C)
Prospects for Clifford/Nolan (#3/4 L)

Hall-Gags-Yakupov
Perron-RNH-Eberle
Clifford/Nolan/Jonesuu - Gordon - Jones
Clifford/Nolan/Jonesuu/Clune - Gaustad - Lander
Whatever's Left/Smyth

It's not great, I know. But we've got a lot of bottom 6 revamping to do.

Yeah.. guess you could go with a 3.5 million dollar contract and go for a 1st and 3rd.. they would probably match which would screw them.

Any chance Pavelski would be available for anything/one other than RNH/Hall/Yak/Eberle/J.Schultz/Klefbom ???

Or is that a big negatory? Might be willing to take Eberle out of the above group.

So you would trade Eberle for Pavelski?

Big negatory. Trade Hemmer + picks for multiple bottom-sixers and we'll be improved. Ideally sign Grabo too and flip Gags for a D.
