A top-4 puck mover would really help us in my opinion. I'm not sure we'll be able to get one, especially if MacT thinks the roster is set. Still, Perron is a good, but I'm hoping for a top-4 RHD puck mover.

Not bad of a 3rd line but I bet he signs a cheap deal with a contender 1yr deal

Alright, let me explain things slow and easy.

1. Hemsky only has 1 year left at a 5mil caphit. That is not an albatross contract.
2. If he was as soft as you say, he would have never gotten all those injuries. The fact of the matter is, he battles in the dirty areas and takes hits to make plays.
3. He's okay in the d-zone. He won't be nominated for the Selke but he has faced difficult competition for many years and does fine.
4. Gives partial effort? Prove it.

If Horcoff can be moved, so can Hemsky.

Which is why I'd like to see Cleary or Morrow signed... Both guys are older, but wiser and great competitors.. clear as the 3L would be sweet, particularly with a healthy Peter Mueller... I honestly think those two or three guys make the difference in this team being a solid surprising and rising team with leadership and some grit and flash, or a light highly offensive offensive team that will just get pounded most nights..

What's the story with Lantendresse? Worth a look?

Funny, oddsmakers label Edmonton to finish 6th in the West.

Only have us behind Chicago, St. Louis, LA, Vancouver and San Jose

I'd probably put us behind Anaheim and Phoenix, but if we add the extra pieces...6th seems like a good number. I don't know how the new playoffs works exactly yet, but imagine Oilers vs Canucks round 1

I suggested it some time ago and people tell me he's lazy, ultra injury prone and overall not worth it.

Hey Yak, I never said Hemsky can't be moved, it just won't be without the Oil eating a significant bunch of cap, or getting MINIMAL return a la Horcoff... I think he's a great fit in Detroit or somewhere where he can skate free...

What if we kept Hemsky and offered LA our 1st for Clifford? I know it's a high price to pay but it'd be hard for them to say no wouldn't it?

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Gagner - Yakupov
Clifford - Gordon - Hemsky
Smyth - xxx - Jones

We'd just need to sign a 4th C.

That much I can agree with.
Exactly we need to quit with the Penner talk enough is enough he is not signing here PERIOD

Well kind of. It's top three teams in each conference, then two wildcards.

So basically Edmonton would be a wildcard I guess, because LA/San Jose/Vancouver would be top 3 in the division, so we'd be 7th, not 6th.

BTW if we dealt our 1st for Clifford, I'd cry. That's awful.

Jordan Nolan is up for arbitration with the Kings. Wouldn't he make an ideal 4th liner? Big, skates, hits, fights on occasion. I don't know what the asking price would be.

Yes that would be awful, unless they brought in a top-2 defenseman without sacrificing the core

And 6th, as we knew, doesn't exist anymore. I don't know/remember what the new structure is, but I would say if 5 teams make the playoffs, and the Oilers are in a team division with Calgary, there's a good shot they get in.

Should just bury Smyth in the minors...for veteran support.

They should look at Steckel for 4C if he's still available. Maybe Morrow for 3rd LW.

Top three from each division make it in.

So LA, Vancouver, San Jose
Chicago, St. Louis, Minnesota

then Edmonton and Anaheim take the other two wildcard spots?

Then in playoffs it would be:
Blackhawks vs Ducks
Oilers vs Kings
Canucks vs Sharks
Blues vs Wild

Nope. Could be a top 10 pick again, no desire to trade it for a somewhat unproven 3rd liner.

Hard to do, would look bad on us aha. I wish we could though, I don't think any team expecting to make the playoffs would have Smyth in the lineup. I really think he should have been bought out. Awful player and he kills momentum at this point.

We would get a lot better than that if we offered up the 1st.

Did you even watch him the last 2 years? He picked games to play like a first liner and games to coast about looking depressed that Eberle is now the first line RW. Add in the fact that he's been last one on the ice and first one off during practice, and you have a player who straight up doesn't give full effort.

What would really suck is if we traded the first away, finished one spot out of the playoffs and watched that pick win the lottery

Don't the 2 wild card teams have to play their way in?

So if LA, Van and SJ make the playoffs, Ana and Edm would play in no?

Same for the other division, I'm pretty sure you don't play the other 'divisions' until the Stanley Cup Semi-Final.
