Honestly, there isn't very much on that team that the Devils would be willing to give up that we need.

I moved the Kovalchuk retirement talk into the Around the League thread, for those looking for it.

Over/Under set on HF Oilers board at 5 weeks until a poster complains about the roster and proposes we bring Kovalchuk out of retirement.

Lou obviously knew about this a while ago. It all makes sense now. I questioned multiple times how a cash strapped team was signing all these guys. Clowe, Ryder, Zubrus, etc.

They're not going after Hemmer. Their top 6 is set. Henrique, Elias, Clowe, Ryder, Zubrus, and Zajac

Edit: And they're signing Jagr.

Jets quietly having a very good offseason.

Halischuk, Setoguchi, Frolik...to replace bums like Antropov and Wellwood.

Horcoff needs a fresh start, which probably includes a move slightly away from crap linemates and a lifetime of starting inside his own zone. He showed a lot of professionalism in putting up with completely inept management for so long. Guys like Souray could only stomach one year.

I don't have any investment in all in either player. Too old and raised on championship teams in the 80s to bother pumping up any player on any team nowadays. I'll mention this: Every player gives it his all whenever he can. Teams fail because they're built wrong, managed wrong, coached wrong. But singling out players for blame when you don't know the facts is usually a futile, uneducated exercise.
So you agree that Hemsky doesn't want to be the 3rd line right winger and wouldn't be happy in that role, just without the sulking comment which we disagree on.

You pretty much agree that Horcoff didn't give a **** anymore and wanted out, but you blame management for that as opposed to my comment that made no attempt to dissect the reasons for Horcoff's tepid play.

And something about blaming players for something, which I didn't even attempt to do.

I'm all about discussing things, we are here to discuss our favorite team after all, but it seems you're more interested preaching at the board about being nice to players than discussing anything.

This is honestly crazy. New Jersey has to forfeit their 1st round pick this year and now with Kovalchuk gone that could be a top 3 pick.

Wow..

Not sure if anyone else posted this - too lazy to go back and read - but Stauffer was just on TEAM 1200 here in Ottawa.

Highlights of the conversation:

- Perron trade: didn't say anything interesting that we haven't already heard.

-Hemsky: believes a trade is now unlikely. Thinks its more likely he starts the year with the Oilers and is dealt during the year. Was asked if MacT would consider retaining half his salary to move him. Stauffer hesitated in his answer, but said he thinks its something MacT would have to consider. Threw out Bergenheim's name as a candidate. The hesitation was interesting because then then started by saying "If I was the GM, I would have to give it consideration..." Made me think that maybe Stauffer knows its something that MacT won't consider. Or perhaps its the opposite - he is considering it and didnt want to make it sound like an avenue MacT was actually pursuing. Either way, Stauffer seems to think he is here to start the year.

- Draft: Thinks the Oilers would have been better taking Nichushkin or Lazar. Said he thinks "our guys" (the Oilers) had Lazar ranked 8th or 9th (Sorry, IATL).

Nothing earth shattering, but thought the Hemsky bit and having Lazar potentially ranked that high was interesting.

Bergenheim for Hemsky? Where do I sign?

Bergy has an injury history but he plays more like a Canadian than a Swede

Personally I like the idea of a Gagner-Henrique swap.

Um, they probably don't considering Gags will cost close to 5 million to lock up and Henrique will cost 3.5ish or so.

Oh and not to mention that AH is a better all around hockey player.

Because GM's have a short life span at times. Lou might be on his way out himself, why would he give up an asset when he could screw over the next guy?

I like Henrique and I like that he had chemistry with Taylor Hall, but I think there's an inherent risk that he may never actually be a top-6 forward. His rookie season smelled something awful while it was happening and he's kind of struggled since his hot streak died - while shooting the lights out at 14%.

Um there's quite a few assumptions in there. Being better all around doesn't necessarily equate to team needs, oh and not to mention Gagner more than doubled Henrique's point output last year and NJ just lost most of their offense.

He really isn't. MacT said he wants guys that can make plays. That rules our Zenon.

Henrique will be a good 3rd line C that can fill in as a top 6 C if he has elite linemates. Not worth the downgrade from Gagner, imo.
