That's definitely up there for strange ways to get injured.

Yes it definitely caused a face palm moment

He's been sporting a walking boot for a good while.

He finished the season playing bottom 6 forward minutes and bottom pairing D minutes so I don't think he's hurt. Could be they want Klefbom and co to get the minutes.

Good to hear Nurse had a nice debut - hopefully we can get him some AHL playoff experience this year as we'll!
Lander could basically become the new Alexandre Giroux.

Dominates the AHL and basically disappears at the NHL level.

You guys have to remember that it took Lander basically 3 AHL seasons to become dominant and a PPG+ 2 way centre down there. Now, he will never be that in the NHL, but it will take him some time to become a 3rd/4th line C. Huge, huge props to Todd Nelson for the work he's doing down there.

Nelson certainly deserves praise for making chicken salad with the chicken **** roster he's had to deal with all season... so many different bodies in and out all year.

He had 4 points in 6 games as a 4th line forward, I don't think its a bad idea to keep him as a 13th forward.

Doubtful. Giroux dominated offensively but brought little else. Lander brings a 2-way game which would let him be a useful NHL player if he can ever put it together at this level...

Also Lander can skate way better than Giroux IMO. He's a much more complete player.

Anton Lander is also 3 years younger than Giroux was when he first crossed the PPG threshold in the AHL.

I think we all need to remember that Lander is still only 22 years old. He's probably never going to be a scorer at the NHL level, but there's still lots to like about the player, especially as a bottom 6 option.

From the day he was drafted, I've always pictured him as becoming a Samuel Pahlsson-like player in the NHL. At Lander's age, Pahlsson was an NHL rookie with 9 points in 76 games between the Bruins and Mighty Ducks. I'd say Lander is still tracking well along that trajectory.

Another interesting thing is Lander was named the captain of OKC Barons. You would not name a guy that was a likely call up captain.

I think Lander is just too comfortable in the AHL and when he comes up he is put in uncomfortable positions. ie Played at wing because we know he can play center. I think he will take time to feel comfortable in the NHL as well.

I like Lander as an NHL call up option. He is not providing much offense, but still getting chances

He seems like a guy who could figure it our one season and be a 10 goal 20 assist third liner in his peak. Which is pretty valuable expecially because he is a strong two way player

I would love to give him one more season as a AHL call up/ bottom 6'er. If he doesnt make the NHL full time next season, I imagine hes back in the SEL. I wouldnt imagine another team would give him a 1 way deal as a 26 yo whos never made in on the Oilers. And I cant imagine him does the AHL call up thing when he could be a good SEL'er

Edit: 24 years old

Sammy P is exactly who I see... Gordon I hoped would mentor him more in the art of checking but that might still come with time...

misjudged is age whoops, but the point is. After next year it will be clear if hes an NHL player or not. I doubt he sticks around to be an AHL call up/ AHL star

But I am all in favour of keeping him till he decides to leave.

i still have hopes for lander. i think it might take him a few years to establish himself in the nhl, but there is no reason why can't be an effective 3rd liner one day.

I believe he'll be an nhl regular within two years. Going back to Sweden after putting all this time junto the ahl would be a waste, if he's not on the oilers he'll be a part of another nhl team. I bet Detroit would love to have a 24 year old swede that's a two-way player, ppg and captain of his team. Wasn't lander the captain of his sel team when he was like 17? He doesn't need to go back IMO.

Lander's always had leadership qualities. It was one of the things on his scouting report. He has been put into positions to put up points here with the Oilers but it was for a short time and it was clear he was lacking chemistry with Ebs and RNH. I still have high hopes for him next year though. Hopefully he doesn't let me down.

I think that if Gordon wasn't on this team Lander would be playing 3C already.
If Lander can translate his AHL offence into some NHL scoring he could be a decent 2/3C tweener.

Looks like the Jones boys had a rough night. Them and Ford were both -2 in a 2-1 loss.

Is Nurse-Fedun really a first pairing or are the pairings arranged randomly? I am surprised Klefbom is on the third pairing in OKC after playing quite well with the big club.

Played well with Musil when he first came to OKC, and handled with Musil handling the bottom pairing minutes, it makes sense not to separate them.

Also, it might say a lot about Nurse.
