Frankly, this should be non-news. Above all, shame on the Hawks for letting this punk powder keg into their locker room. Class-A#1 idiot, shame on them.

I don't know what's more annoying.... Justin Bieber or people that go out of their way to ***** about Justin Bieber. Stop being so obsessed about a singer marketed to preteen girls already.

Sheesh... this horse has been beaten long enough as it is. There ain't even a corpse left at this point.

Additionally, there were suits there with him that were in a position to tell him not to step on it. Vent your internet frustrations at those guys.

Also, classy use of "lesbian" as an insult. Getting 2nd grade up in here.

Yeah, this can pretty much be closed. Bieber was only there because the Hawks brass wanted him to be there. He's not a Blackhawks fan - he probably isn't even a hockey fan. Who cares?

All this Bieber stuff has been embarrassing. Who cares? It's kind of dumb to put something you don't want stepped on the floor in the first place.

Agree with the first point, disagree with the second. Lots of teams and organizations have a similar tradition. The point is that having something you can't step on the floor makes it mildly inconvenient, which serves as a regular reminder and reinforcement of the values it supposedly highlights.

It's easy to forget a picture on the wall. Not so much something that you need to consciously walk around every time you're in a room.

Did anyone read the posted link? It's about 1/4 Bieber talk and he agrees it's probably not a big deal.

I did actually, but he still used the Bieber aspect as the supposed draw in the OP and then proceeded to waste time typing about the situation and insulting the kid, whether it be intentionally or ironically.

Regardless, a retread that doesn't need to be retreaded.

EDIT: Though rereading my original post, I could see why someone would think I was calling out the OP for attacking Bieber and wasting time obsessing over him. Meant "you" as more in the plural you sense, not specifically him. Should've been more clear. Stand by my last point specifically directed at the author, though.

That's a nice explanation but it's still rather silly IMO.

Burish says it best:
A Chicago Tribune article in 2009 quoted former Blackhawks forward Adam Burish noting: "Nobody steps on the logo in the middle of the room. ... It's part of the way it is. When I was in college, it was the same way. It's a hockey respect kind of thing."

I learned about the logo tradition in youth hockey. We were fined if we touched our logo. I think it is a great tradition. Hockey players are raised to show respect for the game: handshake line, respecting your organization (logo), standing up for your teammates, etc.

People might find Shaw and Bollig's comments crazy. But it is this type of mentality that has guys running through walls for each other and playing through ridiculous injuries.

Well if Burish, Shaw, and Bollig said it......

And just because something has always been done a certain way, doesn't mean it's not stupid.

It also doesn't mean that it is.

Also, do we need to get a hold of Toews and Kane to see how they feel about the situation? Will that make it more legitimate for you?

And just because something is perceived by some as stupid doesn't make it irrelevant or something to disregard. Can play that one both ways. And those guys are far from the only ones preaching that. As many have said, it's something you're taught from Junior on, sometimes earlier.

For the record, I find it to be overblown and blame the staff as much as anyone, but it is what it is and stupid or not it's something players take seriously and that's their right to do so. That's their domain and their little world. Some understand that, many dont.

Exactly, tradition doesn't validate the practice. It's empty reasoning.

And I don't care what Toews, Kane, or any hockey player thinks about the situation. I'll trust my own judgment.

I can understand hawks players not stepping on the logo as a sort of tradition, but some stupid scrub wannabe-thug puss doing it? Please. Why the hell should anyone care?

Stop trying to equate tradition with logic.
