Devils vs Islanders vs Rangers

Which team has a better season next year out of those New York teams, and what will be the order. Thank you Sasquatchman for the idea.

Swap NJ with Buffalo. NJ isn't a NY team.

They're closer, have rivalries and are in the same division, I'll keep it like this.

It's going to be a VERY exciting season, with all 3 NY metro area teams having very competitive teams.

Can't freakin wait for the season to start.

Rangers, Islanders, Devils

But it's pretty close. Each team has their group of great core players like Lundqvist, Nash, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Stepan, and Staal for NYR, Tavares, Moulson, Hamonic, and McDonald for NYI, and Kovalchuk, Schneider, Larsson, and Henrique for NJD.

Under Vigneault, with his entire system in place. I think the Rangers are going to be the best of these three teams.

I like the team they have. Assuming they resign Stepan, and hopefully Zuccarello. I like that JT Miller, Kreider and Moore are one year older and now have furthered there NHL experience last season. A proper off-season will boost well for all three.

I like the additions of Kristo, Falk and D. Moore.

With our returning team from last year. AV as our coach, Ulf, Arniel as our assistants and having a third coach who might be Newell Brown... I feel pretty good about the season. They will implement sleep science, advanced stats and other unique aspects that I think will only benefit the team.

People will state that the sleep science only benefited the Canucks but that is simply not true. Every team in the NHL and the AHL goes through some bad traveling plans. They are on a tough schedule and I like that a sleep guru will come in and make sure they are optimizing their sleep habits. Even if its a small gain.

The biggest key of all of this is having Lundqvist. Simple as that.

Understand I do have some concerns. Will Arniel and Brassard get along? I hope so, I believe their professionals and will do so. Will AV and Arniel improve our PP? I believe so, nothing could be worse than ours in the last few years. Will our defense suffer from a more focused offense and more attacking... I think it will be more or less the same. But overall better player. Faster movements. More creative.

Rangers will be on top because of Lundqvist, as usual.

I think the Isles will be better than last season, the rebuild is panning out and I like the pieces we've added (just wish we signed a better goalie).

Not expecting much from the Devils

I really have no idea how to rank these teams yet. Their all going to be different from last year. Should be very interesting. I wouldn't be surprised of any outcome really.

You should probably add Nielsen, Bailey, and Okposo if your going to add Henrique.

I think all three will be relatively mediocre. I give the edge to the Rangers. They finished a little better last year and I don't see any reason to think they will drop back. I would put the Devils ahead of the Isles because I am not sold on Nabokov at 38 with no legit backup. As an Isles fan that is my big concern.

People should realize that with Schneider instead of Hedberg, NJ would have made the playoffs last year.

They led the NHL in shot differential.

Devils are a good team.

I think it had more to do with lack of scoring, Kovalchuk was out. No one said the devils aren't a good team.

i think both teams will be about the same, but there are several arguments to be made for the devils being better than they were last season.

a. they retain a fantastic puck possession core. there's a bit of a downgrade from clarkson to clowe, but they also added a finisher in ryder, which is something they desperately needed.

b. one thing that hampered the devils a bit last season is that they had 8 nhl d-men on the roster, meaning larsson, tallinder, volchenkov, harrold and fayne were all in and out of the lineup, which wasn't good for any of them. with tally gone, there's a clear veteran top six, harrold for spot duty, and a pasture full of nhl ready or close to ready d prospects in the farm system for call ups. adding larsson's expected growth and more consistent partners and roles for all of the d-men should result in a better defense than they had last year.

c. marty was average at best last year, and hedberg was awful when marty went down. with better goaltending, there were a lot of games the devils could have won last year. schneider and marty splitting time should result in much better goaltending than they had last year.

d. deboer's system thrives when it has scoring depth to work with. last year when kovalchuk was hurt, the devils struggled to ice competitive bottom six lines. the carter-gionta-bernier line was asked to play above where they should, and a host of random acquisitions and call ups were filling out the bottom six. obviously there will be injuries again this year, but the additions of ryder and clowe along with depth guys such as olesz and henrique, loktionov, josefson, tedenby, and some of the ahl guys all being a year older should help ensure that each line remains filled out with quality nhlers even during injuries.

e. zajac probably won't struggle as much as he did last year again.

the devils aren't elite in any area, but they are very good in every area. that should ultimately translate to a strong team.

Rangers and Devils both make playoffs, not so sure about the Isles.

Went with Islanders, Devils, Rangers.

Feel Devils are definitely underrated and Isles are being severely underrated in this thread. With the loss of speed this off-season from a few teams, Isles are now the clear-cut fastest team in the league.

He included Del Zotto for the Rangers. That's a go-ahead to pretty much include each team's entire roster.
