Where exactly are we moving Pyatt? His own mother wouldn't want him. We're just gonna throw another guy in Hartford?

Chose to ignore it since the title was so ridiculous.

Someone will take him, if it comes down to it and a team doesn't want to give us a 7th, futures will do in my book I wouldn't be looking for a return just to get rid of the space he wastes.

I still think Pyatt has potential. Torts used him in the way Torts used him and didn't push Pyatt to be anything more than what he was. When you play for Torts and the coach likes what you're doing (board work and basic simple defensively responsible, D&C, short shift stuff), you just stick to it. Maybe AV will use Pyatt differently, perhaps better, perhaps worse. Who knows? I am not one to put a reduced to clear tag on him, yet.

I agree pyatt could play much better under a different coach and system but if it came down to it who would you rather zucc or pyatt? Hopefully it doesn't come to it but it might.

Also I think those who think Stepan is last in line to get signed are mistaken i think sather needs to play hardball with the space we have left and get something done before zucc's arbitration.

I wish. Imagine the cap we would free up by waiving Richards?

Move away from players like him, and focus on players with the ability to bury the puck in the net. Not just during shootouts.
I tend to lean this way regarding Zucc as well. I think since he won us a few games in the shoot out we have a little bit of a warped perception of him. If you want to win a Cup you need playoff performers who won't get knocked off the puck easily.

I'm not saying the kid doesn't compete, because he busts his ass out there, but I think a guy like Kristo could take a forward spot in the lineup and provide more finish. Zucc is hardly ever around the net and his size is a major issue, no matter how much we want to dream that he's going to develop in this league as a St. Louis 2.0.

meh, then we'd just replace him with someone on the wrong side of 30 anyway like Lecavalier.

If my math is correct, they have about 5.3M of cap space left (assuming Powe and Asham are sent down).
Zuke 3 years at 1.3 M per
Stepan 5 years at 4M or 6 years at 4.25 M per
They are right up against it.

Jettisoning Pyatt's caphit is a foregone conclusion IMO.

I wouldn't care if we lost Zucc if Stepan signed either of those contracts. Also, its actually a little bit more because capgeek is still factoring in Johnson who will likely be sent down. 3.3 + almost 2M for powe/asham + Johnson being sent down, almost 6M

I don't disagree, but I see it as Zuke vs Pyatt, not Zuke vs Stepan.

The Rangers are at approximately $58.7 million on the $64.3 million season cap with a shadow roster of two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 11 forwards, including Hagelin and Ryan Callahan,
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...ontent=Rangers

So that's 5.6M, not 5.3M of available capspace as I thought.

Zuccarello, whose arbitration case will be a difficult one coming off three NHL seasons in which he has recorded 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) in 67 games, is believed seeking in the neighborhood of $2 million per while the Rangers likely are offering around $1.5 million.
2M is a little too high. They will meet somewhere in the middle, 1.75M.

Totally agreed. 2M is greedy from what he has done in the NHL. If it is a one way, he should have taken 1.2 PER @ 2 years, and be very happy.

Well if Hagelin gets 2,25 million I would asume 1.8-2.0 mill would be right for Zuccarello.

$2M?

The Rangers should allow the arbitrator to determine the salary. Both sides submit their briefs with their salary requests. The arbitrator splits the difference which is a stupid system. Stick to the QO. Its probably a two-way.

The Rangers made a mistake qualifying Zuccarello. They made him eligible for salary arbitration. They can't walk-away from the award because it has to be at least $3.5M. Try to sign him and let him go somewhere else if both sides couldn't reach an agreement. Don't qualify him. That was their walk-away. They didn't do that.

This will end up at 1.75 mill, just like it should be. Fair for both parties in my opinion.

Personally I think 1.75 is a bit much for Zucc's track record.

It's tough to say it's a deal breaker compared to other options...but it is a bit much for a guy who has scored under 40 total NHL points.
