Thats the New York Rangers version of depth - we've got a bunch of bodies, must be depth. Seemingly little to no thought is given to specific roles and other important factors of roster building.

I think the lineup for most of the season will look something like this:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Richards-Zuccarello
Pouliot-Brassard-Callahan
Boyle-Moore-whoever wins a spot

Out of the young players you listed, would any of them really benefit from 4th line duties? Could they even fill that spot?

Who cares!!!? We've got warm bodies.

You pine about flexibility in your post, yet the reality is this roster has very little of it.

Dorsett, Asham and Haley could all play in that spot rather easily.

Hagelin is the better, more valuable player to this team, so yes.

His agent is quoted at www.vg.no (Norwegian News site) saying that mza didn't have to back Down on his salry demands, that he got a good salary based on his Worth..

Pyatt, too. Probably more likely than Asham or Haley.

I obviously dont know much about icehockey. Hagelin would never have gotten a
salary like that in Europe

But like I said before, NYR would get him cheap. He is not greedy
No offense but, outside of Sweden, European players are generally not complete hockey players. A premium is put on offensive creativity.

Who says Kreider doesn't need more time in the AHL? Who says that a kid doesn't win a spot over Zucc or Pouliot? Who says Moore is going to come back and play well after a year away from the game?

Zucc, Pouliot and Moore are all on 1 year deals. They are all signed for cheap and can be stashed in Hartford if necessary, with minimal cap hit. Any kid we plug in won't have a base salary more than the 925k we'd save by sending a player down.

Kids will get a chance to prove themselves in camp. They will likely get a longer chance assuming Cally and Hags will start the season on IR. How about we just let it play out and see what happens instead of all this hand wringing.

so if Boyle-Moore-Dorsett is the 4th line... Where does that leave Pyatt? Isn't 1.5M for a 13th forward absurd?

I haven't heard, but I'm sure it is. I have a hard time believing he would accept a 2-way deal.

I quite clearly labeled those as my assumptions. Maybe kids do win spots -- on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Thats my overall point. Redundancy kills depth. Do we have any depth on the 1st or 4th lines?

I'm not sure how it's redundancy if one player is better than another. We still aren't as deep as teams like boston and chicago, but I'm not sure what you were expecting given our lack of cap space.

Trading away players for picks/prospects isn't going to make our depth better.

Dorsett will be on this team and in the lineup every night (barring injury or suspension); not a question

He showed us some mercy. Next time Sather gives a player ALL the power, he won't be so lucky.

Yeah, Zucc laughed at the 2m claim in regards to his worth, and then said he would take even less than what he was worth because there were little room.

Zucc at 1.15m per COULD be a steal. He wants to be here and prove himself in the NHL.

If he just makes it and performs pretty well, I don't think 50-60 pts from him is a stretch. If he makes it and is a part of a decent PP, the 60-70 range isn't even out of question. He needs to take command though and really make things happen on the ice. Late last season, I think he became too much of a by stander and if that happens again I actually think he could end up on the outside looking in. He isn't guatanteed a roster spot.

In the end, I just want him to get one good shot. I think he was so impressive during very unfavorable conditions, that he ought to have a good amount of potential to be able to really get hot and make things happen under favorable conditions. Nothing is a given though.

Now Stepan should just sign for whatever is left.

Well yes, because Hagelin is the better player, the more versatile player, and has proven more in the NHL. So there you go.
