Exactly the same as Giroux.

I'd be happy with that or even a Matt Duchene deal at 3.5M for 2 years.

Giroux just signed an extension that will pay him 8.275 mil per year. If Stepan is going to continue down that path, I'd rather lock up him for as many years as we can right now.

Why? Wouldn't you rather have Stepan @ 3 and then 8 more after that? I would. Signing him for 8 now means he is a UFA sooner.

The cap will go up several million dollars over the next 3 years. More importantly, Stepan will have proved his worth by then.

Giving him a 6 or 7 year deal now is premature, IMO.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm very tired and have a splitting headache.

Wouldn't the arb award have been a 2 year deal? If so, then Zuccarello made a smart move here. If he performs, he could raise his pay 30-50% next offseason, instead of being stuck at the $1.5m or so he would've gotten from the arbitrator.

Very possible the Rangers leveraged that possibility into him accepting today. That is, if I'm remembering right, which I may not be.

Except that he takes on all the risk. If he gets hurt he is boned hard.

84 pages? Wow.

Anyway, decent deal for MZ who, if he has any kind of a season, will get a big raise next year. That being said, Stepan isn't going to get signed with the cap space that we have left. Someone or someones are going to have to go. 2.8/yr is not going to get it done.

What strikes is that this is a peprfect contract for Zuke. He have to be in a safe environment and nothing to lose to perform at his very best.

When was he at his best the last few years? In the Olympics 2010 for Norway, people expected that team to tie their skates, no less, no more. The call up during the christmas hollidays the first year here? The team was full of injuries, no way he would lose his spot on that team. Coming over from Russia this year? He was outstanding the first 5 games, our best forward by far and away. What did he put on the line careerwise those games? absolutely nothing.

First training camp? First couple of games with limited ice time the second year when they started in Sweden? It was signs of "Hey, I can lose my job here" written all over him. And that was exactly what happened.

Now? One way contract, paid a little less than he probably deserves. Nothing to lose. No pressure. Perfect.

I dont know what Sather does anymore, but after 13 years, Ill blame him when anything goes bad.

So, good job by Gorton on the Zuccarello contract.

New article in the Zucca - keen Nettavisen out now: http://www.nettavisen.no/sport/vinte...cle3656816.ece

Kevin Skabo is the agent speaking on his behalf, not Ryman this time.
Says he want's to prove himself and maybe even regarded worthy of an even better contract next season...everybody's happy...happy...happy.

Great day!!!

Agree. That was the consideration for MZA taking "less" this year. He's gonna play like a man on a mission and open some eyes i think. Good for him and the Rangers. I love the little sh%t. Good luck with the headache.

His shooting percentage was actually pretty high: 11.1%.

1.) I was making a joke. I understand that when Lindberg Cheese said "little sh%t" he wasn't talking about a low shooting percentage.

2.) I don't know think I would be out of line saying that a shooting percentage 0.5% above average is "pretty high".

I think AV might use the 4th line as the checking/D line.. something like Hagelin-Stepan-Nash. Zucc-Richards-Cally as the top 2 offensive lines, the pouliot-brass-kreider line as the energy line. and the boyle-moore-dorsett as the checking line

8 years is a long time. I doubt we'd sign him for that long. I was thinking more about the cap hit. Yeah, the cap will be higher 3 years from now, but so will what players are getting paid.

Good deal for all. If Cally and Hags are out 4-6weeks then that's plenty of space with IR. 4-6 is a lot of time for other injuries to happen to the Rangers or other teams to identify holes they need plugged. The team is in good shape going into next season.

Johnson is a meat bag and will be in Hartford.
