Nashville - Colorado

Gaustad
2014 2nd round & 3rd round

Paul Statsny

With Nashville lacking a true #1 center this trade would benefit both. Nashville get 1/2 line center. Colorado gets a depth Center that specializes on PK and defense first. would make more sense to have a PK player than Finesse player on the forth line.

Duchene
MacKinnon
O'Reily
Gaustad

Colorado could get more for him.

And where exactly is the incentive for us to do this?
Stastny might not be as good defensively than Gaustad but it is somewhat close. He really is a two way centerman.
So why exactly do we heavily downgrade on Paul?

Stastny for defense only (and most likely packaged to get a 1-3 defenseman)
or if not for defense it will be once the Avs know he wont be resigning. And it wont be for another center and 2 later picks IMO.

Counter:
Stastny
for
Ekholm + Budish

Nash gets their center, Avs get D prospect and RW prospect.

Not interested in another center. If we trade Stastny it needs to be for a defenseman.

This trade makes zero sense for the Avs. None. Nashville has tons of defencemen, and you offer Paul Gaustad and a couple of mediocre picks? This does nothing to improve the team.

I like Gaustad a lot but Colorado really needs a defenseman.

LOL

Sure we'll solve a Conference opponents #1 center problem for a extremely over paid 4th line center, and a couple late picks.

Thanks! We knew you would understand!

But seriously yes that is a terrible deal for the Avs but honestly I dont want Stas. Overpaid and we have too many centers as it is. We couldn't afford him anyway. Only way I'd be cool with Stas would be if one of Fisher or Legwand were moved and that isn't happening

No way we trade Stastny for a mediocre center. If were not getting defense, we'd better be getting picks and good prospects.

what is this? Did you put any thought into this OP? A 4th line center and two picks for Stastny? No thanks.

Stastny is not even near a #1 center

Totally understand, I personally think that if Stastny is traded. The maximum amount of his salary will be retained in order to boost his value as much as possible. It also won't be until closer to the trade deadline as well.

Hes going to have every chance he needs to return to being a 70 point player, and I also have a feeling that they may even try to resign him, and trade O'Reilly if one of them is traded.

Stastny is much closer to being able to transition into a veteran 3rd center for us. I wouldn't really say he'd be given 14-16 minutes, even in three years. But he could handle the more defensive assignments and still give us 50 points a year just like hes done the last two seasons. While all three of our centers were in the lineup this season, they averaged 18, 19, and 21 minutes a game. Ice time isn't an issue as much as offensive/defensive zone starts and the 'role' they are given when it comes to offensive opportunity.

O'Reilly has too much of his NHL career ahead of him to be happy in that role IMO, but who knows. He could also work very well at LW defensively and offensively, and we could end up retaining both of them.

Similar to SJ, in that their centers go back and fourth between center and wing quite a bit.

If that happens, all I can say is... I hope EJ's offensive light bulb comes on, and Siemens is able to turn into the left handed shutdown #2 he has the potential for. Or we're screwed on the back end...

I've just got a feeling Roy wants to keep both O'Reilly and Stastny to be honest. I see him valuing the flexibility that gives him if he can get one or both of them to play at a high level on the wing when he needs it.

Yeah and by a HUGE margin as well. His ability to play a two-way game also fits the Preds system like a glove as well, but you're not getting him for a cap dumb and some mid to late round picks.

As much as I would love to add Stastny while also ditching the Glass Goose, Colorado has zero reason to make this trade, especially now that we're in the same division. I would imagine they would at least need to get Ekholm in the deal, if not Ellis or Bartley (although I would think they'd want someone with reasonable upside) so replace one of the picks with him. Even then, being intra-division probably breaks the deal.

Lol @ Paul Gaustad. Also Lol @ the OP thinking that Stastny plays on the 4th line. The only way Stastny gets traded is if there is a legitimate top 4 left-handed defenseman coming back. Seeing as Roman Josi wouldn't exactly be traded for Stastny, these two teams do not make good trading partners

I don't think there is a trade to be made here since Preds are close to the cap ceiling and the big salary Preds might send back (Gaustad, Fisher?) does nothing for Avs.

If Preds are willing to do some re-shuffling with salary on their end, I could see a deal based around Stastny for Watson.

I fail to see how this solves the Preds #1 center problem. It just gives the Preds a fourth second/third line center.

Must be a damn good 3rd line center because since he entered the league he would have finished 1st, 1st, hurt, 1st, 1st, T2nd, and 2nd in scoring on Nashville.
