Jets sign Matt Halischuk

He's listed on the Jets website under the roster. Don't see anything on twitter from any legitimate sources, however. Odd.

EDIT: Signing confirmed

TSN lists him as LW/RW. Put up some decent numbers with Nashville a couple seasons ago but had a pretty high shooting %. If anything he's likely an upgrade statistically speaking on Tangradi on the 3rd line. But, really not sure he's the type of upgrade the Jets need.

Anyone know what kind of style he plays?

RUN THE NUMBERS, garret!

Well, we had a 1st line RW..

If this is legit we've now acquired 2nd, 3rd, and 4th line ones

Here's the guy beside Chris Thorburn...

I can't pick a clear winner even here....

EDIT:
Didn't look at their scoring ability difference...
Halischuk runs away with this one BIG time.

Halischuk Set To Have Shoulder Operation: Matt Halischuk is slated to undergo shoulder stabilization surgery, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
(Updated 4/29/13)

To me its a downgraded version of Eric Fehr 2.0

I really don't see where he would slot in on this team.

He doesn't look like a fit on our bottom-6 and he's sure as hell not good enough for our top-6.

I don't get it...

Samson, Gordon, Halischuk, Thorburn, Peluso...

All 4th line to AHLers who predominately play RW...

I like Halischuk. Good player, good hands. He wasn't great last year until a conditioning stint in the AHL woke him up and he played well from there on out.

I have been checking out these boards for some time now and decided to register. I have to say, from an outsiders perspective, honestly, the amount of whining and complaining and downright crapping on every move this team makes is crazy

People can have opinions, that is fine but... honestly, there are some posters on here who seriously crap on every move the team makes.

You guys seem to very much over value the talent on this team

Its a one line team

Ladd Little Wheeler

THAT IS IT

then you got KANE.

THAT is all.

they sign guys, its not good enough, they dont sign guys.. its not good enough

CAN they actually win??

Only the Winnipeg Jets could make a signing that no source can confirm happened, yet list the player on their website roster.

This signing doesn't even remotely change the fact that this is as you said a one line team plus kane and now setoguchi. Thats why it is being crapped on. It is basically a worthless signing. We can add it to the pile of meh players that we got on waivers. We are just adding more mediocrity to an already mediocre group of those 4th liners at best

There are the people who whine about everything, but most of the people who have posted on this thread so far are usually reasonable.

This doesn't look like a signing that will benefit us since it's adding onto a position we don't need, 4th liners. We have a lot of those already.

I'd also say the Jets are the only ones who could list John Albert as a prospect when he has not been a part of the organization for 2+ years, but sadly that is not true with the NHL. Wish they (the NHL) could keep their team sites and press releases for even minor leaguers in better care, for complete diehards for me it's annoying

We aren't really crapping on it, just wondering where he will fit in. It's obvious Chevy is lookikg for rw depth and he's part of it. Our rw depth was atrocious just a few weeks ago and now we are wondering where another rw signing is going to fit in. Maybe not every piece is optimal, but its not a huge deal.

How does the format of the site have anything to do with this?

I remember him scoring a massively clutch goal for Team Canada at the WJ a number of years back. I recall being pretty impressed with his overall play.

well i agree, its not a huge deal or anything

but... at the same time my statement was a pretty general one

go to any thread here, you seem the same type of comments

i dunno what people expect exactly

did u want us to trade nothing for something? cuz reality is.. the only guys that can actually get us something in return are the guys I dont think any of us would want to move (bogos, wheelers, kanes, ladds, littles)

the rest are just... well, band aids... how long did it take atlanta to seriously destroy this team? more then 1.5 seasons (thats alll they have played.. yes i understand first year was 2011/2012 but... that was a write off, they moved here like a week b4 the draft really, ok 2 or 3 but still, that was a write off, last year was a half season)

what do people expect to be done in 2 seasons lets say..

do u expect just cuz they move north and wear different jerseys that they are gonna be better? they lack talent, thats not something you fix in one or 2 seasons.. that takes time.

CAN they win? That is the big question.

I have been notoriously down on this off-season. I am very ambivalent about this off-season. So far we have added a depth 3rd line RW, a character questionable 2nd line RW, overpaid for a #5/6 D, and re-signed a below average backup to our very questionable goalie. The draft pick was meh, not bad, not great. No matter which we way we turned with the draft pick, we are talking 3-5 year returns, so nothing much returned there immediately. This is a core that is aging and has this last season to get it together if we want to be a SC with this core, IMO. The time is now to add a Scuderi, Chara, Hossa to bring us over the top. I don't see that so far. This is a team with a very strict clock on it and I don't see the moves necessary to take that next step.
