Penguins @ Hurricanes Monday 7PM

Figured I might as well make one of these.

What we know from practice today:

Michael Smith ‏@MSmithCanes 35m
#Canes forward lines: Gerbe-E. Staal-Semin, Tlusty-J. Staal-Lindholm, Ruutu-Nash-Dwyer, Bowman-Sutter-Westgarth.

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip 39m
Was told Skinner was scheduled to have MRI and was doubtful for Pens game. Not at practice.

Michael Smith ‏@MSmithCanes 31m
Sekera-Faulk, Murphy-Gleason are two defensive pairs. Komisarek, Hainsey and Harrison rotating.

Looks like we're finally getting the chance for Lindholm that we've all been crying for. Hopefully he takes the chance and runs with it.

Glad to see Lindholm in the top 6, his playmaking should work well there.

Excited to see Gerbe up on first line, and Lindholm on second, but im surprised he broke up the awesome STAAL-STAAL-Semin line that was looking awesome last game

Id think a:
Eric / Jordan / Semin
Tlusty / Lindholm / Ruutu
Gerbe / Nash / Dwyer
Bowman / Sutter / Donk

That wouldn't be bad, when Skinner is back move him on the Gerbe / Nash / Skinner line and move Dwyer into Wests spot.

I like the line changes, have to try something different. Gerbe's speed and toughess goes well with Staal and Semin.

I think Lindholm is going to have to do it all by himself. Tlusty and J Staal are not playmakers..

Well, one of the things Lindholm did well in his early games, as I recall, was setting up Tlusty in the slot on the PP. So it might work pretty well. But who knows ...

I think they want two players who can carry Lindholm defensively.

The options are Dwyer on his offside, Gerbe, Ruut or Tlusty.

I'm glad they went with Tlusty. I can't wait to watch that 2nd line.

What I am surprised about, though, is that Ruutu went to the third and Gerbe to the first. Trying to spread out scoring? That has worked poorly for the 'Canes in the past.

I expect full reports about the new lines, as I'll miss TOMORROW NIGHT'S game due to work.

I wouldn't call it trying to spread out the scoring. That new third line has 1 goal total for the whole season (and it was Nash that scored it). I don't expect there to be much scoring from that 3rd line. The first and 2nd will have to carry the load.

I like the idea personally. Thought that eventually Lindholm or Jordan would be moved to wing this season, not surprised to see this move.

With Skinner out, they need to find a way to have some level of secondary scoring to take some focus off the top line so this makes sense to me. Put some skill on the 2nd line with Jordan but make sure they are still defensively sound.

3rd line will be mainly defensive in nature as well.

Finally we're no longer wasting Lindholm with Westgarth and Bowman

Whatever it takes to get lindholm linemates he can play with. It's a waste to have him here if he plays small minutes with chumps.

Ruutu has been under .5 points-per-game over his last 95 games. At this point he is a third liner. It's not really spreading out the scoring.

My impression of those lines is that Muller wants one guy on each line who will be a sure thing to stay high and prevent counter-attacks. Gerbe on the first (he's been an excellent two-player so far), Jordan Staal obviously on the second, and Dwyer on the third. I'm pretty excited about this, hopefully the defensive responsibility is contagious to all the lines.
