What I am surprised about, though, is that Ruutu went to the third and Gerbe to the first. Trying to spread out scoring? That has worked poorly for the 'Canes in the past.
I wouldn't call it trying to spread out the scoring. That new third line has 1 goal total for the whole season (and it was Nash that scored it). I don't expect there to be much scoring from that 3rd line. The first and 2nd will have to carry the load.
With Skinner out, they need to find a way to have some level of secondary scoring to take some focus off the top line so this makes sense to me. Put some skill on the 2nd line with Jordan but make sure they are still defensively sound.
3rd line will be mainly defensive in nature as well.
My impression of those lines is that Muller wants one guy on each line who will be a sure thing to stay high and prevent counter-attacks. Gerbe on the first (he's been an excellent two-player so far), Jordan Staal obviously on the second, and Dwyer on the third. I'm pretty excited about this, hopefully the defensive responsibility is contagious to all the lines.
