Love Marchenko (#47) in this drill.

I know it is a simple drill but you can see how much more comfortable he is than the other guys.

He stays on his edges well, fires crisp passes and his shot motion is gorgeous. It is short, compact and quick, with very solid resulting pace.

I am VERY excited about Marchenko. I think he will be great in the AHL next year. Looking forward to seeing him play on a really good team in GR!

Not surprising that Frk is doing so well. His game seems to really scale well as the competition level increases.

Everything about Marchenko screams NHL. He just looks like an NHLer.

You could see it in his limited ice time over in the KHL too. He just always has his head up and looks so smooth in everything he does. It jumps out at me anytime I see him doing anything.

Scrimmage impressions: http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments...velopment-camp

Sounds like a tale of two pairings: Ouellet/Marchenko and Nedomlel/Sproul. I just have no idea what they're going to do in Grand Rapids with these young guys. Even Nedomlel will probably play ECHL and he might not deserve that.

Long story short: The Wings don't have to sign him for two years and they probably won't sign him for two years. But my goodness, if he can show the engagement he did on a night when the Wings' coaches and management wanted to see someone who is sometimes disengaged from the game play like his ass depended on it, he played like his ass was on the line.
Per Malik, on Mantha.

Does anyone else agree with that? As Mantha is eligible to play in AHL in 2104-15 season? And as he scored 50 two years earlier, he should still return to juniors?

I think they have even stated he will in all likelihood finish his junior career this season. I mean it remains an option until he signs a deal, but I expect him in Grand Rapids next year. If his compete level doesn't up though, maybe that will be the message sent, doubt it though. Think they will want Mantha there as quickly as possible.

Frankly, I don't agree. I expect to see him signed after this season.

Don't know do we need another goalie, but Patterson would be it if somebody.

Of defencemen, I'd try to sign those big right-handed guys. Erik Gudbranson's brother Alex, 6'3 Righty. And Telyakov, 6'9 Righty is always interesting.

Management seems to like Mantha a lot. Frk, Sproul and Ouellet get mentioned too.

I am thrilled to read how good Nedomlel was in the scrimmage. You can't make too much of one scrimmage however I thought he'd be destined for the ECHL. Perhaps he is in the process of punching his ticket to the AHL.

Paterson is also a very bright spot with how he shut down Team Lidstrom - which has a huge disparity in shots on goal if I read the report correctly.

I've been one of the biggest Sproul guys on this board for a long time, back when RWC was touting Ouellet as the better prospect. So happy to see Sproul make the gigantic strides he's made over the past few seasons. I truly do believe Sproul is our best shot at a superstar. It sounds like he's the kind of guy who will keep his head on straight and has already shown that he is committed to getting better and better through hard work.

Really nice game for Frk. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other on him at this point but being able to produce on his own without MacKinnon and Druin was very impressive. He should rocket up the next RWC rankings. I'd be shocked if he's not in the top 5 when the next rankings are released.

Good to see Mantha play such a strong game. It's been a long time since we've had a top draft pick crack the DRW lineup in less than 4-5 years. Mantha has the size and skill to be a guy who could push for a roster spot fairly quickly if everything works out as we hope. Good start as far as that goes.

Yeah...usually a sign that he loves the kind of game he plays.

Helene St. James was saying that the general consensus is that Frk will play all of next season in GR (barring injuries on the big club), and will get a good hard look for 2014-2015.

He and Srpoul look miles ahead of the other d-men during this drill.

I just hope "good hard look" actually means "good hard look" instead of "Yeah come to camp, but good luck getting a spot because we have too many vets that are definitely going ahead of you, unless you show us Datsyuk 2.0"

He doesn't need to learn how to cook better food, just how to eat more of it

Lovin that size already. Think he will be with Detroit sooner than the typical path of DRW prospects.

I think Mantha will obviously play one more year in juniors... might not reach 50 goals again, but he has the tools to repeat it, but I think and hope that he will play a more complete game that is more suited for pro-hockey, and then start the 14/15 season in the AHL and he will get a call-up and play a few games in his first AHL season when a skilled guy gets injured, he'll then be back as a black ace in the playoffs then play with the big club, full-time, in 15/16.
