Winnipeg signs Matt Halischuk

per HF mod Guerzy on the Winnipeg forum, Halischuk is listed as being on the Jets roster
http://www.nhl.com/ice/playersearch.htm?team=WPG&pg=1

Generally, when they're added to the roster like that, it means a done deal.

If we actually did pick this guy up what can we expect? Is he an NHL or AHL signing?

hes shown he can score 15g 15a in a season. probably will be a great pick up at a low cap hit. expecting a 1 year contract for him.

He will be very missed in Nashville. I would much rather still have him than Hendricks and nystrom... Ugh!

Good luck Matt!

NHL. 15 goals and solid PK ability. Hustles. Good signing. Like I said, I'm a little jealous.

It was surprising to see Halischuk not qualified considering his age and ability (I'm guessing there were arbitration concerns?). A relentless, gritty player with a decent scoring touch.

He should improve the Jets' bottom 6 forwards.

Excellent pick up for the Jets. Really wish the leafs had signed him at a lesser price than paying for Clarkson.

That's funny that they would list the player on the roster without issuing a press release or seeing a tweet from a legitimate source. I'll wait a little bit to see if this isn't just a clerical error.

Jets fans are left scratching out heads as to exactly where he will fit in. At the end of last year our rw under contract consisted of Chris thorburn. RFAs wheeler and peluso were qualified. Wellwood and miettenen are now ufas. Since then we've acquired setoguchi, frolik, Gordon(2 way 350k), Samson (200k 2way) and now halischuk. We officially have at least 5 NHL/ahl Gardner right wingers.

Gotta have em all.

I'm pretty sure this happened last year too.

Solid depth signing if true. It seems he can play both RW/LW, so this will help with versatility. I can see him slotting in on the 3rd line LW most likely with Scheifele and Frolik. Move Tangradi onto the 4th line and ditch Thorburn on the banks of the floodway or trade him for a free slurpee on slurpee day.

Went to high school with Matt, ecstatic to see him find a new contract if this is true! Good luck in Winnipeg!

He can also play LW. So the 3rd line seems ideal.

I like Halischuk. No room for him in CGY though. Good luck in Winnipeg!

If the signing is true, I hope it's for Thorburn's spot and we still find an upgrade to Tangradi for the 3rd line LW.

Good pick up for the Jets. The kid definitely has a motor, but he was not in the long term plans in Nashville. Poile wanted to add size, grit and experience to the bottom six. Halischuk wasn't going to be a top six guy, and he didn't fit that bill. However, if you are looking for a player who can chip in some offense while playing in the bottom six he's definitely your man.

He was affectionately nicknamed Hustlechuk during his time here.

Thanks ThirdManIn. Definitely have no problem with guys that have that kind of nickname.

Yep, Jets will like him. Not a physical type player but works hard and chips in offensively.

11/12 season I think he potted 15 goals on the 4th line.
Wish him only the best.

Check that - division rival now. He sucks.

I don't understand why we let Halischuk walk and pay twice as much to a guy like Nystrom, but okay. He will do well for Winnipeg. I'd say he probably tops out as a 15-15 guy, but every little bit will help the Jets at this point.
