We have enough talent on our prospects to fill out our bottom 6 and second line forwards down the road.

But unless we have access to lottery picks or sign a superstar free agent (both options being unlikely or undesirable). We won't be on the list of elite teams after Z and D leave/retire.

On the defense, even though we don't have #1 or 2 D yet, I was impressed by Babcock's defense by committee approach, which should keep us in the hunt for SC.

But without the superstar center/forward combo, we will eventually be paddling up the creek without any paddles. Just my opinion.
I'm sure they said that about Yzerman and Fedorov. You aren't getting a top 6 FA easily these days and without a lottery pick (or at least top 10 pick), the odds of landing an elite player plummet. Which is why they are loading up on draft picks and getting a mix of highly rated prospects, long shot projects and unknowns (Hakan picks) to see if the can find that next star.

I have no doubt they will try to find FA to fill the void, but their priority is development. Let's see if it works out.

That's just... too far away. Doubt it will be Järnkrok.

I think it could be a defenceman, like Ouellet.

My guess would be either Smith, Ouellet or DeKeyser

Nyquist seems to be a pretty vocal + good character guy also.

Tried to find our propects Captain experience from lower leagues:

Xavier Ouellet, Captain for 2 season at QMJHL

Calle Järnkrok, Assistant for 1 season at Elitserien
Ryan Sproul, Assistant for 1 season at OHL
Darren Helm, Assistant for 1 season at OHL
Justin Abdelkader, Assistant for 1 season NCAA
Gustav Nyquist, Assistant for 1 season at NCAA
Nick Jensen, Assistant for 1 season at NCAA

Source: Eliteprospects.com

Maybe some info is missing from there, but usually Captain types are Captains also at junior level. Xavier is the only one in our system.

DeKeyser was captain at WMU

And Smith seems like that vocal leader in the locker-room.

I actually have the complete opposite vibe from him. Lets his work on the ice do the talking. He could wear the 'A' for sure.

I think we could get an idea of who is more vocal in the locker room during 24/7

He seems like a good representative of the team.

I guess I meant more that he seems to "say all the right things" in the same way Kronwall and Zetterberg do when they get interviewed.

I would imagine he is on board with the team philosophy and seems like a good candidate for a future 'A'.

Hard to say what he is like interacting with the other players.
