Would you do this?

To Phi: Gagner, Klefbom
To Edm: Couturier, Coburn

Right now:

Gagner > Couturier
Klefbom < Coburn

Then my pipedream is to sign Penner and Grabovski

Perron/RNH/Eberle
Hall/Grabovski/Yakupov
Penner/Couturier/Hemsky
Joenssu/Gordon/Jones

Smid/Petry
Coburn/Ference
N.Schultz/J.Schultz
Belov

If he is as good as they say he will be, there is no way I move him.

Gagner for Couturier is nice, but giving up on Klefbom would be a bad idea even with Coburn coming back.

I love Couturier but I can't make that deal. If we're moving Gagner absoulutely need to get a RH PMD back.id move Klefbom or Petry straight up for Couturier though. Our defence sucks ass and until we improve it were not competing.

Klefbom is max a 20-30 point d man who plays a steady all around game. He'll be good but I think we're going to be giving up a perennial Norris trophy winner.

Penner's agent was on Oilers now, he said there's little chance there would be interest in a deal between oil and penner.

Coburn or Couturier is likely all that Philly has that MacT wants, and the asking price is probably just too high on both of those pieces with MPS gone. Philly has no cap wiggle room to move a player back to them.

Likely the same with LA, they're too tight up against the cap to be able to take a player back for Clifford. Our second rounder is gone, and neither of those pieces is worth our first.
There is always the option to trade one of the LHD prospects. LA would probably not want salary back, so that might even be preferable to them. I'm not sure, but I might trade Marincin for Clifford.

Trade Proposal:

To Edmonton: Erat
To Washington: Hemsky

Nothing better to do but browse cap geek and this occured to me. Erat may be a good fit as the third line Rw and can jump into the top six if needed. He is a little pricey for the third line but the cap isn't too much of a issue as of yet and he only has 2 years reamaining on his deal.

If I recall correctly there were rumors Wash. was interested in Hemsky at the trade dead line. Hemsky might make a good second line Rw there as his style would be a good change up from Ovies power game.

Not sure how you'd move him without having a C come back. If not, you're pretty much forced to sign Grabo. I know there are people here that think he's a good option but I really don't think so.

PHI has a lot of C depth so they'd seem to be a good match. I think TOR would be interested too, but not sure they'd send Kadri back or not. I'd want Reilly to start.

My proposal:

Couturier, Coburn, Meszaros

For

Gagner, Petry, Nurse

This is not to say the Oilers aren't talking about a Hemsky trade, because I have little doubt they are. This is more to say that another deal is in the works. What we don't know of course is whether the deals are either/or deals or not. It certainly appears at this point both options are being explored...

"As we have heard a few times since the Cup Final, MacT has some serious options that he is quite happy about...Horcoff is 1 of 3, or even 4, options. He is not done."
With all due respect to Eklund, I usually don't put any stock whatsoever in his rumors UNLESS they involve the Flyers, and lo and behold we are mentioned with the Flyers here. I said it earlier in the thread, and I'll say it again, if we trade with Philly I could see a BIG TIME trade. Something like:

To Edmonton: Couturier and Coburn
To Philly: Gagner and Smid/Petry

or

To Edmonton: Brayden Schenn, Coburn, and Luke Schenn

To Philly: Gagner, Smid, Petry, Marincin/2014 1st round pick

With Nurse, Klefbom and Gernat still in the stable, I'd move Marincin, but not sure if Clifford would be wise. Getting immediate help and filling a need by moving a prospect isn't bad, but that's a deal that could end up looking awful down the road.

I'd HATE to deal Nurse, but with the Philly connection to his uncle I could see it as a possibility depending on what we get back. Personally I think that the trade as you present it is a slight overpay on our part.

It could because we could see Marincin outpoint Clifford every year that they are in the NHL. That said that doesn't matter if you think that it improves out club and adding a 3LW like Clifford most certainly does that. Will Marincin be better than Klefbom or Nurse? Maybe offensively, but likely not in an all around type of way. He is also probably the least physical of the 3.

If a deal wasn't bade before the draft, why would it work now?

It may be an overpay, but to get Couturier, I think Nurse would have to be part of the package. And if you're sending back Gagner at around $5M per you probably have to take back Meszaros and send back a dman with a low hit like Petry.

What does you mean by this?

He is the best (only) 2C we have, but there are plenty of better ones out there.

By all accounts the deal that was being discussed was Coburn for picks. This is a much different deal. And with Lecavalier there now PHI's cap situation is different. The landscape has changed. If anything maybe it's more likely as Homer and MacT already started a dialogue.

At the end of the day, I'm sure MacT extends Gagner and he'll prob pay $5 or 5.25M per. Both sides seem to want to deal a deal. Prob just $0.5M a year holding it up at this point.

Change that to Musil or Gernat and I'd do it, I don't think I would trade Marincin for Clifford though.

I could see a Sabres-Oil trade but the involvement of the Canadiens just shuts down the whole thing.
