Well that gaping hole would be filled by Little... gotta give to get as they say.

Smid instead of Petry would be fine by me.

What would you call an upgrade that's even remotely attainable?

The reason I am using players like Franson and Little is because they aren't signed yet... and obviously their respective teams are having some difficulties coming to agreements (same with Gagner) so it's an interesting trade to propose... likely? No but then very few trades and proposals here ever actually happen.

I think Little would be a very serviceable #2 C for the Oilers and Franson would be a good solid puck-moving PP threat as well. Oilers currently have Schultz... who's still clearly finding his defensive legs... and essentially tumbleweeds after that when it comes to offense from the blueline.

I proposed a 3 way deal because it's more flexible... and I doubt the Leafs would give up Franson for Gagner straight up without other parts to the deal as well.

Then what's the point. You end up merely inverting our problem.

Yes you are. I'd rather not make our top 6 smaller, softer, and worse offensively just to trade our top dman for the most overrated guy on HF since Sequin

Luckily for you, Little is just as soft as Gagner... so no downgrade there... he's better at faceoffs and better defensively AND he's very similar offensively.

Bonus is we upgrade and get a very good puck-moving dman to feed the top 6... Franson and Schultz would be a nice pair to join 4 other defense-first dmen.

Overrating/underrating is bs... results on the ice is a better indicator.

Wow i know we need dmen but this Franson hype is insane. He's a PP specialist who can adequetly play 3rd pairing minutes. You can give him more minutes but it better be of the cushy variety. He's young enough to get better and maybe 2nd pairing isn't crazy, but he's never going to be anything more than a rich mans Corey Potter.

I've never understood the full love on Franson. Just not consistently good enough defensively to ever be more than a No.4 or strong No.5

Not trading freaking Gagner for him

I've watched a lot of leafs games and out of all the d men Franson would be the one I want.
I live in Toronto and see him play virtually every game. He is mediocre at best.

Haha Franson is the definition of mediocre. I'm not even a huge Gagner fan but I'm seeing people propose him for Franson? Gimme a break...

i think the oilers should look at a 1-2 year deal with scott gomez, doesnt address the size @ C issue but it gives us a C that can play bottom 6 and fill in top 6 with injuries that isnt a complete offensive black hole.

another option for the 3/4 C could be mike knuble. solid vet that could be good to have around the kids.

Gomez is done, like really done. Chipchura is a better option in that spot, imo.

Don't get the Petry hate at all.

I've posted it several times and will again....6'3 right-handed 25 year old puck moving d-men who CAN play defense don't grow on trees.

Smid is far more expendable than Petry although in an ideal world you keep both and still add another top 4 d-man

Sharks bottom 6 scored a total of 1 goal in 11 playoff games. If Gomez and the likes of Sheppard, Wingels, Galiardi, and Desjardins had shown any offense in the playoffs the Sharks are in the WCF.

Gomez skates really fast and does nothing else. He's an older Cogliano

Agreed. That's beyond Stupid. We are very deep now for competition in our bottom 4 defense, so why would we trade one of our 3 NHL centers away? Gagner does not go for a d-man unless it's part of a deal for a top pairing guy.

Petry is another guy that I don't move unless it's a legit top pairing guy in return. I still see 3 years from now, Schultz, Klefbom, Petry, Nurse and Smid fighting it out to make one of the best top 4's in the league.

D. Phaneuf to EDM? (rumor confirmed)

Here's the link ...

http://www.*******************/artic...uf-258303.html

That would be a nice pickup. He's played with some terrible Dmen since arriving in TO. He'd be a guy who takes big minutes and can play tougher than he did in TO.

Why would Toronto trade their number one D-man?
