Who else should the Jets sign?

There are still some options out there. Who else should the Jets sign?

I would like them to add Grabo, but I don't think it is in the budget.

If they add anybody else I suspect it will be a bargain basement option who can play centre.

Antropov
Wellwood
Gomez
Mueller

Bogo, Little, Wheeler, Postma ... and then we won't be able to sign Brunner or Grabovski. So give me Antropov.

Mods - can that last option be edited to say "and maybe at trade deadline"? Thanks.

IMO Brunner would be a nice addition. He is a natural goal scorer and might be a great fit for an offensively challenged squad. I think we could get him in the $2.5M - $3M range, still leaving enough to sign all our RFA's.

The trade deadline is incredibly far away... We don't know who if the Jets will be buying or selling, we don't know which of our current players will play well or be healthy. Trade deadline gets into all sorts of weird baseless speculation.

If signing Grabo or Brunner means we can't sign Postmaster, I won't really be that upset. I get what you're going for, but I don't think he should be grouped with our top rfas. We need depth at forward more, but to mention better players in general.

Signing Grabo can help this team so much. Gives us another legit top 6 center. Gives us a Scheif insurance marker in case he's not ready. If Seto leaves at the end of this year we can just move Little to wing an Scheif can slide into the top 6. Just gives us flexibility.

It's true that the trade deadline is very far away, but I would think most teams would ideally like to have 1 or 2 million in cap space heading into the season for some flexibility.

Agreed that Grabo would be a great addition, but he would likely be wanting closer to $5M per, which would tighten things up signing our RFA's.

I can appreciate those who feel we need to sign another UFA. I do. However, I am a little more concerned that these guys will take precious NHL experience from our younger guys on the farm. I don't like the idea of making Telegin and others on the farm feel like they will never get a shot. Peluso is an example. He brings much needed toughness to our squad and he is already buried in the depth chart. I thought we were a draft and develop team.

The depth chart screams for a UFA centre.

Little
Scheifele
Olli
Slater

If somebody gets hurt we could be looking at Wright and Slater holding down the 3rd and 4th spot. Scheifele is unproven. Olli was terrible last year. Adding somebody who can play wing and centre in a pinch pretty much needs to happen.

I'd be okay with a Grabovski. Wouldn't mind Antro back with a pay cut.

With that said, I voted the last option. Focus on signing our guys first and foremost.

Ideally Grabovski, but that's likely not in the cards so getting Antropov back for a year at a low cap hit would be good.

Antro is a bad player at 4.5 mill/year

He's a great player for 2 mill/year

If we are looking for a solid LHD, I say we bring back Randy Jones.

In all honesty we should focus on the RFAs and then look to lock up some security on the point - if we have as many injuries back there as we did last year we will be in trouble.

Antro for 2 years at $2.5 M seems ok to me.

Grabovski would be ideal and would really give us the ability to roll three lines.

Brunner would be fine here, especially as a third line LW. However Raymond is really the guy Id want there. I wouldn't say no to Antro either though. Especially if Joki and Kane don't work out again, we can swap him for Antro.

I said it in another thread as well, but I'd love Prospal on a 1 year deal. He's been waiting on Columbus but it sounds like they won't be re-signing him.

Grabovski would be pretty cool, but I really don't think we are going to get him.

Brad Boyes and Damien Brunner would be my next pick, because they play right-wing and we could slide them into the #2 spot if Setoguchi doesn't work out with Kane.

Prospal would be a good locker room guy, but he plays left wing and I don't think he's going to sign with us knowing he's going to be on the 3rd line.

I doubt we see any major UFA movements till we get the big RFAs signed.

Came here to post exactly this. He's probably the best value out there right now for a third line option, and it gives us the flexibility to pick up a legit #4 lhd later on.
