Totally worth it for the B's. This guy is the future, injury concerns aside. And a dream pillar for any franchise.

Wait, so Bruins fans in here are saying "it's not about the points!!!" when it comes to Bergeron, but now it counts towards Toews? I'm pretty sure Toews played excellent defense in the playoffs and just wasn't able to pot the points. He was far from being "MIA".

He's a gamer, but with the abuse he heaps on his body you wonder if he'll play at maximum ability in five years, let alone eight. Boston's window won't be open forever either...

He's undeniably top 3 and pretty much a lock for a selke nomination every healthy year. Well worth 6.5

and you guys are literally saying that bergerons contract is great (which i agree) because its not all about points..So why does toews playoffs this year make him MIA?

I disagree he gets 7.5-8 mil in the open market.

And the homerism shown in this thread is atrocious. I wouldn't say he's THE best two way forward either.

And only 1 year with over 30 goals and that was how long ago? He hasnt even cracked 25 ever since that year.

I say its a fair contract...and may be generous in that assessment.

Agreed. I think its a pretty fair deal, but no way is he getting $8 mil on the open market. Crosby only makes 8.7.

Amazing player, game in and game out. His professionalism is through the roof, he doesn't understand what a comfort zone is, he's continuously working hard and shows the desire to keep learning. Demands results and leads by example, raises the bar for the players around him in preparation. Truest team player. Absolute warrior. His overall impact is immense.

Love the deal. Bruin for life.

No, it's not. It's fair, and borderline risky on the length due to Bergeron's past concussion issues.

If This a steal, then Rask deal is VERY fair.

Probably because it is generally accepted that prior concussions increase the risk of the next one -- all else being equal -- being harder to recover from.

Who cares, you can go on underrating him. It's impossible not to if you don't watch the Bruins regularly. There's a reason why about 80% of Bruins fans have him as their favorite player and no one is in the least upset about this deal, but rather thrilled to have him back for another 8 years. He's the most consistent player I've ever seen.

Good cap hit. I just don't like the terms Boston is giving out. 8 years. 8 years is a LONG time. They just gave out two 8 year $50+ million contracts.

I've never been a fan of long contracts. Who knows where the player will be 8 years from now? What happens if Bergeron gets hurt and can never achieve the same level of play again?

I always think long term deals like this are a gamble. IMO, 8 years is still a gamble. Before this CBA, the GMs signing 12-14 year deals were simply bonkers.

And $6.5 million isn't a steal. It's a fair cap hit for a 60 point Selke caliber player. Just because a team would have paid him $8 million on the open market (which I'm not even so certain of) that doesn't mean it would be a good contract. In fact, he'd be overpaid if he got $8 million, by a fair margin too. Unless people think he is worth only $700k less than Crosby and $1.5 million less than Malkin (the top two forwards in the world).

Needless to say, I love Bergeron. Would love him on the Rangers. One of my favorite players in the game, one of the only players I like in Boston, and he will continue to make Boston a contender if everything goes as planned.

From what I know about Patrice Bergeron, I admire him almost as much as a hockey player as I do as a person.

One of my coworker's son had brain cancer, and my coworker filled in me in with stories of all the stuff that Patrice did for him and for other children w/brain cancer. Totally unbelievable stuff; if my coworker didn't have pictures of all the stuff I never would have believed him!

Patrice is one of the classiest individuals that has played on any sports team in Boston. I am so glad that they've locked him up... he's really the "Other" Captain of the team.

Probably a mix of being a team player and Rask taking a ton of concessions and doing everything the Bruins asked him to do before. It was time to give in to Rask's demands.
