Most Valuable Oiler #7

Who do you think is the seventh most valuable Oiler going forward?

Consider age, contract, injury history, positional value, leadership, potential, etc... One way of thinking of it would be: in a trade to a neutral team, who would bring the greatest return?

1. Taylor Hall (75%)
2. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (70%)
3. Nail Yakupov (65%)
4. Jordan Eberle (65%)
5. Justin Schultz (75%)
6. Sam Gagner (30%)

Klefa and Perron are close for me after that petry, smid, nurse, and dubnyk are the next tier.

Smid then Petry then Dubnyk then Perron. Hard for me to vote for a prospect. Unless of course it was #1 pick or something.

If someone offered a 7th overall pick for Dubnyk, I would take that in a heartbeat. Thus, his trade value is less then Nurses. He might have more value to the oilers but not in a trade. For that reason I have them:

Klefbom > Nurse > Petry > Dubnyk

This. Too many prospects don't even make the NHL for me to value them more than these guys.

I think the fact that a kid who has never tasted North American ice in a league setting is vying for 7th most valuable player says a lot about the state of this club. Hopefully all of those wishful opinions don't go south when he inevitably struggles.

Smid, I hope, will be our blue collar shut down, gritty, dive on a grenade, stay at home D-man for the next few years. That's why I picked him

Petry. He's damn good defensively and he's going to breakout into being a 40+ point player next season or the season after. With his style of handling the puck it's impossible to not eventually pot a ton of points.

Given the parameters laid out by the OP I don't get how Klefbom isn't winning this. Most GM's around the league given the choice of taking Klefbom, Smid, Petry or Dubnyk would take Klefbom. "Going forward" and taking "age, contract, injury history, positional value, leadership, potential, etc" into consideration Klefbom is most valuable.

If you listen to those who know the players Brodin and Klefbom while different players are seen as having similar value in terms of potential. Brodin had an excellent rookie season and should have been nominated for the Calder. So if Klefbom is in that same neighborhood at age 20 isn't that better than both Smid and Petry?

Laddy Smid.

Maybe not in terms of trade value, but value for this Oilers team. Important piece of defense.

i voted klefbom based on trade value.

lots of people will think im crazy but i think hemsky is our 7th best player. ignore his injury problems and contract. when he is at his best he is unreal, i really hope we keep him.

At this point, there's a group of people who I'd rank pretty equally.

I'm giving Dubnyk the nod because a young Starting goaltender is very valuable. (And I do believe he's been proven as a starter, but I won't get into that here)

^too true! ridiculous that Klefbom is getting more votes than Dubnyk and he hasn't played a game yet! think of where this team would have been the last 3 years without DD around.

Shocked at the lack of respect Petry is getting.

I'll take a 6'3 25 year old right handed PMD over a stay at home defender any day of the week.

Smid > Dubnyk > Petry > Ference > Klefbom

Love Petry but there is no denying that Smid is the boss on that pairing.. Great locker room\ off-ice guy .. With the new contract of his he to me is up there with the big 5 in value.

Smid for sure, our best defensive defenceman. It terms of value probably Klefbom or Nurse.
