Who would you rather have going forward? Drafted the same season.

I wanna say we had a thread on this before and Larsson won by a decent margin. I'll look it up and post it if I can find it. Naturally any Wild fan will vote Brodin (including myself) because we all have a huge man-crush on him.

Nothing against Adam Larsson but Brodin is going to make Suter look like the rookie of the duo next year.

Well Brodin had a better season last year, so that means he's better right? lol...I think if larsson was paired with Suter he'd look pretty damn good too. Not taking anything away, but lets wait and see. Voted Larsson bc I'm a homer though.

Not saying Brodin isn't impressive, but the sample size can't be that large considering the shortened season and the fact that they were paired together so often

They played 706 minutes together at 5v5... Larsson played 621 minutes at even strength in total.

doesn't that kind of prove the point that Brodin didn't play many minutes away from Suter?

Who's to say Suter wasn't out of shape due to the lockout or had trouble initially acclimating to a new system?

I'm interested to see how JB performs next year and has to go through the grind of a full season. People forget that Larsson was the Devils' best dman the first 50 or so games his rookie year

Brodin. Not remotely close. I saw about 8 or 9 Devils games and 6 or 7 Wild games this year and the difference is night and day. Brodin will win at least one Norris. Larsson will top out as a top pairing dman like Aucoin or Hamrlik. Both very useful but not Norris calibre, and not really all that close.

Jonas Brodin. How is this even debatable? One guy comes in and becomes half of one of the best defensive pairings in the NHL. The other comes in and finds himself healthy scratched in favor of Henrik Tallinder. Adam Larsson is all hype, and gets a longer leash than anyone on these boards. The love affair for him is completely unwarranted since all he's shown are flashes of being good, Jonas Brodin is already good with flashes of being elite. Sure Brodin has become overrated by some people, but he's certainly earned the hype moreso than Larsson.

I watched about 5-10 games of Larsson in his rookie season, and lets just say if he was their best dman for any stretch of games, then Andy Greene/Bryce Salvador must be Corey Potter/Theo Peckham calibre bums, because Larsson was anywhere between underwhelming to god awful.

Brodin also played:

30 minutes with Tom Gilbert (Wild outshot opponents 31 to 19)
27 minutes with Jared Spurgeon (Wild outshot opponents 33 to 17)
25 minutes with Clayton Stoner (Wild outshot opponents 29 to 22)

Suter also played:
130 minutes with Jared Spurgeon (Wild outshot opponents 125 to 104)
54 minutes with Tom Gilbert (Wild were outshot, 44 to 60)
30 minutes with Clayton Stoner (Wild were outshot, 16 to 39, ouch)

Brodin, in his 125.5 minutes without Suter:
Wild outshot opponents 124 to 84

Suter, in his 237.5 minutes [b]without Brodin:
Wild were outshot 201 to 236

I'm not saying this definitely proves Brodin is better... just that I have very little doubt that Suter was carrying Brodin. He can hold his head well above water on a team that isn't particularly good at puck possession at the age of 19... That's pretty remarkable. IMO Brodin, along with Landeskrog, are going to be associated with fantastic 2-way play in the very near future. It might take 2-3 years to catch on, particularly if they're joined at the hip again the next few years..

Suter, an NHL professional of 542 games and supposedly among the league's elite, let himself go during the lockout, or he couldn't transfer his game as well to a new system? Are you sure you aren't just looking for narratives and hoping they're true? That's crazy.

Brodin played in 9 games in the AHL after moving 4,500 miles, playing his entire career to date playing on a larger ice surface in a league where Jason Krog and Rob Schremp are among the leading scorers.

Yeah there is this thing called the Penalty Kill. Opposing teams usually get more shots than you.

Still doesn't explain why the Wild consistently outshoot the opponents with Brodin on the ice, or why the Wild constantly outplay the opposing team whether it's Corsi/shot differential/puck possession when Brodin is on the ice regardless of who he plays with/against.

People that voted Brodin: have watched both players play multiple times
People that voted Larsson: are Devils fans or are going off the Larsson hype train

There is no possible way you could've watched both and come up with the conclusion that Larsson is better.

Wait what? Are you saying the numbers show Suter was outshot by opponents because he plays the PK?

Yeah, no doubt... both play a ton on the PK. Head scratching comment. Especially when you consider Suter lived on the PP, thus you'd think that would help his shooting stats without Brodin yet it didn't at all.
