I think the Senators are a playoff team. They have no reason to offload Michalek. Our best bet is to grab him as a UFA in a year from now.

I'd like to add Boyes, but Maloney has been outright dismissive of the remaining UFA crop. Pretty public about not caring for what's left.
If we could get Boyes at his last year salary it would be worth a gamble, especially if it looks Boedker is going the Turris route. Omark could also be interesting as he would be cheap.

#Coyotes have signed forward Brandon Yip to a one-year, two-way contract. In 4 NHL seasons, Yip has recorded 29-27-56 in 172 games.
Is this the last UFA signing by GMDM....?

Hmm, not sure what I think about that. Seems redundant I think our bottom 6 is fine. Money probably isn't much anyway so whatever.

I hate this signing. I hope Yip spends the entire year in Portland.

We need him in case Brown isn't ready for the NHL yet. Since it's 2-way it doesn't hurt anyone's development.

Two way so its basically insurance against the young guys not stepping up. Worst case he splits time on the fourth line with Biz, not so bad.

I'd rather we got Carcillo back instead.

Yip is a solid energy winger capable of potting 10 goals on the 4th line. It's a two-way contract, so it's just a RW depth signing. Nothing to get excited about for or against.

Haven't heard Nik Antropov's name tossed around in awhile. He's still looking for a contract. Had a pretty mediocre year, but he's a big guy who can play wing or center. He's only 33. Usually good for around .5 ppg. I don't think he'll be back with the Jets. His faceoff percentage wasn't that great, but he'd be a solid option to slide from wing to center in case of injury. And I can't imagine his cost would be exorbitant. One or two year deal, I imagine.

I love that 3rd line of Korpi, Vermette, and Moss. I think both Korpi and Vermette took a hit to their confidence last year when they were forced onto the top lines because we didn't have a choice. Get Moss to the front of the net where he belongs, and we could have a very effective 3rd line that can put up points.

Another sign that we won't be seeing lots of Lessio / Martinook / etc this season.

Nobody on this list can put the puck in the net. It's quite sad.

In other news, we have a stable of young trade-worthy d-men losing value by the minute.

In all seriousness, can Maloney not find a team who needs a defensemen or two in this league? Are you telling me that team like Philly and Tampa don't make good trading partners, or for that matter, Edmonton?

Yeah. Not a single goal scorer on the list. I wish we had a guy who was 2nd in the entire western conference in goal scoring just one season ago. That'd be great.

You're a little behind the times. Philly has a lot of dough tied up in their defense corps and they just signed Streit, so no need for someone like Yandle. And they seem to be unwilling to give up their forward prospects to acquire a good d-man by trade. Edmonton also just signed Ference, so he should be enough of a veteran stay at home presence for them. As for Tampa, we've definitely have been having discussions with them on HF so yes, they seem to be ideal trading partners and there can be a move made. I guess Maloney just wants to be wait and explore his options.

And Vrbata is a 25 goal scorer who can certainly hit 30-35. Hanzal and Vermette were both on pace for 20 this season. Boedker and Ribiero can certainly hit that mark as well if they shoot enough, Doan, Korpi, and Moss as well. All things ideal, we actually could have some pretty balanced scoring down the lines. But we certainly need another legitimate Top 6 scoring winger and/or someone with that upside who's NHL-ready.

I think you were going to be disappointed if you were expecting to see Martinook up at all this season let alone see lots of him prior to this signing.

We needed goals. We drafted a goal scorer and signed a PPG UFA. What do you want?

Interesting thought. Low risk, possibly very high reward. Could probably be acquired for close to nothing. Cheep fit on the second line, without giving up one of our studs on defense.

Wouldn't be against it. Thoughts?

I think the Yip signing rules out the Omark signing.

Eklund has the Flyers still sniffing around for Yandle. Apparently the price is 'VERY' high. No ****. He doesn't know much but the one team he does have sources with is the Flyers org.

With Ribeiro in the fold my desire to trade Yandle went from a only a really good offer, to nearly untouchable go away.
