Pirates and DiamondBacks are the front runners for Brian Wilson.

Pirates one of five teams to have offers in for Brian Wilson.

I'd sign him under the condition he isn't a total wacko. We don't need that distraction.

A good guess is that Wilson might be intrigued by the prospects of working with Searage and his staff. Gotta think the DBacks would be offering the best money deal, given their closer problems.

It would definitely be interesting to see how his personality would fit into the bullpen...I don't see it being an issue since he's a character and not a troublemaker, but I don't think you can get any further away from Melancon's persona than Wilson.

If we get him...sweet, free depth! I won't be crushed if we don't, but having the experience would be nice if nothing else. I wouldn't be surprised if he went with Arizona just because of there being a better chance of being a closer...and I'd expect they'd be willing to offer more because they need him more than we do...but the Pirates have a pretty immaculate track record of revitalizing bullpen arms over the past few years, so he may go for that instead.

That and the Pirates have a better chance of making the playoffs than the D'Backs do right now...it's hard to see anyone but the Dodgers winning the NL West right now and Arizona is 8 games behind us (and 5.5 behind Cincinnati) in the standings.

Think of the marketing tactics for Wilson, Blackbeard the Pirate, X marks the spot.

This is an excellent point! Almost based exclusively on this, I hope we do it.

It might come down to what Wilson really wants... the prospects of perhaps re-invigorating his career under Searage might be tempting, but also the chance to walk in and be the closer, which probably won't happen here... He's already won, but I imagine the playoffs are a big deal, and we have a better chance than the Diamondbacks and would be a great underdog team to sign up for (though the Dbacks are also underdogs in the playoffs).

I kinda hope it happens.

At the right price, I think it'd be awesome and a good addition vs the trade options.

This is the first time in my life that I'm actually nervous about the Pirates. The past 2 years I thought, before/during/after the collapse, "Ahh they suck anyway it's the Pirates... .500 was never meant to be".

But this year I'm really hoping they don't collapse. I want to see a winning season and the playoffs. The group of guys is really likable. It would crush me to see the team finish below .500 again.

So the Dbacks are supposedly not in on Wilson now.

According to the comments on MLBTradeRumors he seems to be the go to guy in Phoenix.

Very interesting. I could see him maybe wanting to stick on the West Coast or go to Boston if they are the AL team, but we could use the depth and experience, and he'd be free except for the money, so no complaints here.

I wouldn't say ''front runners'' but more of a ''in the mix''.

Some Grilli news: the injury is muscular and not related to tendon, which is great for recovery.

I've liked Brian Wilson and he seems like the type of guy who would actually find being blackbeard the pirate a selling point in coming to Pittsburgh.

I completely agree Who knows how good he is but the name recognition alone would be pretty big for the team.

i'd jump so hard onto the buccos bandwagon if they picked up Brian Wilson.

then again i own a buccos hat and i seem to be the only person who wants to know what's up with Rinku. i think i'm a true fan.

FWIW Singh is out for the year after being shut down on three separate occasions after an elbow injury when playing Winter Ball in Australia...I haven't heard an update since before he got an MRI a couple weeks ago.

So I'm really busy with hockey, golf, softball, etc and decided not to get MLB TV this year. I tune in to watch the end of games occasionally via stream or watch games on my available nights(tonight for example) and in the 20 some games I've seen, I have no gotten the Pirates feed once. It is very weird. Last year I would always chose Pirates feed. It's kinda amusing how all the announcers are always shocked that the Pirates are as good as they are though.

Does Wilson still have the beard and mohawk? He'd be too plain without them
