If we're offering one year at $1MM around, my first call would be to Morrow. He played pretty well in Pittsburgh. Need more sandpaper.

looking forward to this team. i know they don't jump out at you, but i think there's something to be said for some continuity now. and a new coach will do these guys good. the torts years were good for developing these guys. but maybe it'll take a new coach to get them to the 'next level'.

I believe one of either Gorton or Sather mentioned that Stepan was in fact asked about Kristo, so I most def!

They did. They mentioned it in the full story as well as in the interview with Gordie Clark.

A DZ-Stral pairing makes me uncomfortable. Both offensive d-men but DZ doesn't have Moore's skating to get back in position if Stralman does a bad pinch or something. I still like the idea of Del Zotto-Staal being a pairing.

So where does Kristo play on the right side with Zuccarello on the team? The Rangers traded a player who is a good year away probably 2 years away from making the NHL for Kristo who played 4 years of college hockey.

IMO Rangers need a PMD more than a top6 forward. Someone's gotta get the forwards the puck and McD can't play both sides of the ice for 60 minutes a game.

Why sign Moore with a guy like Lindberg playing so well in the SEL. I think the answer to these questions are the same. Rangers are adding depth with the intention being; first, to have players contractually in the AHL and off your cap that are ready to play in the NHL. Injuries will happen and when they do, you just slide a guy right in. Second, younger players in the AHL that are NHL ready, reminds the veterans that someone wants their job and they're going to need to work hard to keep it. Third, at the deadline if you've got a healthy deep team, then you've got parts to move for a rental to help bring the cup home.

Lindberg, Miller, Kristo, maybe even Fasth, McIlrath, or even Allen, are all guys that could be looked at the same. They're seasoned outside the NHL about as much as they're going to be.

I feel like we're in the same position we were two seasons ago, We have the one big name star forward in Nash instead of Gaborik, and then solid depth players throughout the lineup (With Hagelin and Callahan healthy). Who knows how the season will go. Worst case scenario we have some under-performers in the lineup who can be scratched to let some of the guys down in the AHL get a callup and see what they can do. Best case scenario we have a lot of people who perform perfectly in their role and it gives us some room to make trades throughout the season and at the deadline. Zuccarello is one person I wouldn't be opposed to trading, especially if Kristo shows he can perform. If Moore exceeds expectations, maybe Boyle becomes expendable (Though honestly I prefer having a guy exactly like Boyle on that fourth line). There are also other options, Maybe Kreider excels and deserves a first line role, maybe he under-performs again and Kristo, Fast or Miller do fantastic and Kreider can slot down, Nash moves over to the left and you still field a good top six. Maybe we move Richards or Brassard to the wing because Miller or Lindberg look great and are perfectly placed to take a third line center role.

It's possible the whole team blows it this season and the kids aren't ready. But I don't think I have a problem walking into this season and see where the chips fall and who performs.

A PMD would be a luxury at this point. Our D seems to be set. Another goal scorer is a must. Were banking too much on players potentially scoring goals. As of right now, the roster has 1 - 30 goal scorer. Yikes.

Skills wise, MDZ will do certain things that McD probably won't do (not because he can't but because it's not something McD cares to do), but in terms of skating, puck handling, and yes, passing, McD has the distinct advantage on MDZ.
Hockey sense is what separates the two. McDonagh's got. Del Zotto, time to wonder, big-time. He's got enough to be what Stralman is--an on-and-off no. 4 or 5. This is his contract season, and I think it's make or break in terms of being a Ranger.

I don't think he has the intuitiveness, and I think he'll have another mediocre season up until the deadline, where he will have vaue, albeit that much less. Hope I'm wrong.

I also believe Moore (John) will be a lot better than we're expecting... this team has pulled ahead of Ottawa and maybe even Montreal in terms of acquiring and developing D-men, at least in the East.

Chicago only had 1 when they won the cup in 2010 (Kane had 30). But they had 6 players who scored 20+ goals, and another 5 guys who scored 10+. They were 3rd in the league in scoring that year.

We don't need to add a 30 goal scorer. We need to have offensive contributions throughout the lineup. A PMD is a luxury? Where are we finding a 30 goal scorer that makes as much or less than MDZ? Adding another big gun to this team would be the luxury. We need what MDZ can provide, and we need more production out of our bottom 6.

Nash, Stepan, Callahan are pretty much the only guys who can score 20 or more goals on this team. so we're gonna need scoring up and down the lineup.

Don't forget about Fasth either...

...in the end, all can be beaten out. The best guy will play. No harm in that. It's not like having say a RW depth chart of Gabby/Cally/Prust under Torts, it would have taken some performance by a kid to take away a spot from one of those three RWs. If Kristo is ready and got "it", he should be able to bump Zucc. The same for Fasth.

People are forgetting about Fasth. He could suprise a lot of people in camp. I don't know where he are at after all his injuries.

Brassard, Hagelin, and Richards could easily hit 20 goals a piece.

And where is this scoring coming from? Some people here are going to be in for a real rude awakening when they realize a coaching change won't solve this team's issues.

dont know about easily for any of them, but I agree they have the potential to. Richards if he rebounds absolutely can, I worry about Hagelin's ability to finish, and Brassard has never came close to 20 goals but one year (17)

I was talking overall, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, and Toews(?) all scored 30+ in prior seasons before 2010 (?).

We are stacked at the defense position. Adding to it would make an excellent defensive unit better. Based on that, yes, adding a, lets say Shea Weber would help the team tremendously, but of course it would be a luxury. I'd love for Del Zotto and Staal to be playing 3rd line minutes. But they are top 4 defensemen on 30 of 30 teams in the NHL.

Our forwards are average. The quantity is there, not so much the quality. The premium PMD seem to be going for 4+ million, about the same for 30 goal scorers. Adding to it would make an average offense a good offense. I don't see it as a luxury of adding another 30 goal scorer, i see it as more as a need than the "need" we have on defense.

Do we have more than two or three players that we can definitively say will hit 20 goals this season?

Nash. Stepan. Crossing your fingers and toes for pretty much everyone else, right?

Easily? com'on man! Let Brass and Hags do it one time first before we say they can easily hit 20 goals. Hell, Boyle hit 20 before. We should add him to the list too.

I think Callahan is a safe bet as well. I don't see him missing so much time that he'll see a huge reduction in goal scoring.
