Man, I wish Barkov would have fallen to 4. Congrats on him signing Panthers fans.

No, he is Finnish. Born and raised here, without all the Russian characteristics like diving and selfishness. Just 100% of Finnish willingness to annoy the hell out of everyone else.

Yup, instead he has all the Finnish ones like the inherited ability to finnish second!

Sasha is just another name for Aleksander.

Sasha is a diminutive for Alexander. It's like saying Johnny instead of John or Tim instead of Timothy.

He looks intriguing, I'd give him a try-out offer with the Panthers, but would rather use the limited spending money on a proven NHL vet.

Russian DNA, born in Finland and lived in Finland his whole life. Russian talking family, Finnish friends, Finnish junior hockey.

Saying that Barkov jr. would be Russian would be pretty equal that Paul Stastny is Slovakian.

Barkov is an ethnic Russian with a Russian citizenship. Stasny doesn't hold a Slovakian citizenship.

How about Teemu Selanne's sons, are they Finnish or American? I don't think one excludes the other so I don't see why someone couldn't be both.

It's about choice. If you choose and feel that you're culturally Finnish, then that's what you are, no matter where your parents are from or if you have a dual citizenship with some other nation or not.

Even if Stasny didn't get an automatic double citizenship how does the situation differ from that of Barkov's. If Barkov says he considers him Finnish, could we atleast respect it, even if he is an ethnic Russian. And when the motives of this discussion are based on "how long he'll play in NHL since he is a Russian" I think this whole line of discussion doesn't show that respect to Barkov I'm talking about.

This is a hockey board and the thing is that for hockey-related purposes you have to choose one or the other. Barkov has very clearly chosen Finland, so for all purposes that merit discussion on this board, he is Finnish.

The rest are performance bonuses.

Slide risk is the possibility to send him back to Tappara. Then entry-level slide hits in and contract won't start yet. Only signing bonuses from the 1st year are earned.

the true cap hit is the full 3.575 until the bonuses start to become unattainable, at which point they are removed and the panthers are then credited for those unattainable bonuses. This is one of the reasons teams are permitted to exceed the cap every season by 5%, only using bonus money. As most bonuses arnt actually hit, the cap hit eventually disappears, but if the total cap hits of bonuses earned actually pushes a team over the cap, they have to count it against the cap the next season.

The Panthers will let Barkov adjust to the smaller ice and speed of the NHL before putting him in a top 6 role. That said, I think that will happen rather quickly and by mid season, he will be at least on the 2nd line. Florida won't be rushing him in any bad ways and while he probably won't be winning the Calder next yr, he will put up decent numbers and not look out of place in the NHL at such a young age.
I can't find the quote, but I'm almost positive Tallon already said they expect him to be on one of the top 2 lines from day 1.
