He wont leave until he wins a Cup in New York. He's smart enough to know winning one Cup in NY is like winning five elsewhere.

I knew Messier didn't win the Cup 10 times...

Still think it's unlikely he leaves the Rangers. Can't see him with any other team really.

Outside of Canada it is certainly debatable. I would say winning a cup on an original six franchise is bigger than winning on any other team. And if you look at the original six teams and their goalie situations, they're not exactly open for discussion.

The Canyon of heroes is something special though. New York is a special sports town and if anyone wants to deny that by all means do so.

The Rangers are New Yorks team for Hockey and winning a cup for a team that has been so deprived of them in their history is pretty significant.

Why am I not his agent yet?
Because you'd be a horrible agent if you let a top client sign a one-year deal.

I would offer him 7 million. I don't like paying goalies too much money though but I make an exception for Hank because he has been incredibly consistent over his career.

Realistically, I could see him getting 8 million

Perhaps I should have put the sarcasm smilie after that statement, but I didn't think it was necessary

Detroit is a good team. I wouldn't call them Chicago good, mind you they did almost beat the Hawks in the playoffs this year.

So? Players want to win (most of them anyway). It doesn't matter if they are 40 or 20.

Totally disagree, while it does have it's share of diehards I'd have to say 99% of sports fans here are fairweather fans that don't give a damn about the teams.

Take a look at the Yankees. One rough season and most people don't want to know them.

Yeah, because it's five times less likely to happen here

Flyers have both goalies coming off the books next year(although Mason is an RFA), could you imagine the hysteria in this place if the Flyers land him via free agency? If I was a GM of any team, I would go max years no doubt(7) and would give him close to 70 million. I know it seems like a lot, but if he ever made it to free agency, he would get a major pay day.

I would say 7 years 66.5 million=9.5 cap hit. Man that is a lot of money for any player, but the cap is going to be on the rise also, so in two years that contract could look really nice.

Also, don't worry Ranger fans, I know I know he would never sign with us or even make it to UFA. Just saying what I would do.

I'm actually one of those who believes he could be going elsewhere. Yes he does love NYC, yes he's more than just another athlete there. But it's a life he can go back to anytime when his career is over, and he's only got maybe 4-5 really good years left. If the Rangers go back to their form of 11/12 this year I see him re-signing. Another year of playoff bubbling where he saves the team until the inevitable defeat, I'm not so sure.

Devils will offer him a contract to be a backup. He wouldn't even have to move.

Lundqvist has 10 years left to win a Cup. Alfresson has one year left to win the Cup. How does that not matter?
