Helping out (since I used to do this thread in the past)

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00DY886PG

You can buy the Sports Forecaster off of Amazon, it's sledged to hit newsstands in mid-August. For people in the West, history suggests you will have to wait, so don't expect it until late August. USA buyers can buy it here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E9FWVZE

Also, Dobber is currently available on www.dobberhockey.com

As a fantasy pool enthusiast, I suggest Dobber and Sports Forecaster. I've been buying magazines for years and both of these help me personally. McKeens is another good one.

Not a big fan of THN, while some of the other ones I just haven't used to be honest, such as Fantasy Hockey Standard, which is getting praise if you want to try a new mag.

Looks like Fantasy Hockey Standard comes out today or tomorrow.

http://fantasyhockeystandard.com/

I've bought it the last two years, and it pretty much makes the other guides feel like a waste of money. I'll let you guys know when I've got it.

Forecaster is probably the other good one, and Dobber has good content, but it doesn't compete in terms of look (it's a Word file).

I've been buying McKeens for years too, but it's more of a pure hockey perspective, not fantasy. And it's a bit dry. Don't waste your money on the Pooler's Guide. The Hockey News... god, terrible.

Pretty much FHS, Forecaster, then Dobber. Can't go wrong with those.

Oh also, Left Wing Lock and Fantasy Hockey Scouts have done online guides in the past, not sure if they're around this year or not.

Ordered Fantasy Hockey
Standard for the second year this morning. Had to go to work early so I was only able to take a quick look, bit from the features I've read so far this thing is gold once again! Looking forward to the reading the rest of it!

No guide is reliable. They are only roadmaps. McKeens and Dobber Sports are the best if you want reliable.

Sorry, but... the HfBoards is better than any fantasy pool mag these days and add in the images and portability of mobile technology (smartphones, phablets, etc) and the mags don't seem worth the glossy paper they're printed on.

Welcome to the digital age.

I've done the amazon.ca route for sports forecaster these past few years , the 6.99 shipping charge is a bit of a gouge though .

then again , driving to 3 or 4 locations who supposedly carry it but are ''out'' adds up to 10 bucks in gas ....so I'll pay the shipping .

You are aware that some (if not most) of the members on HFBoards are regular joes that give their subjective opinions on players, teams and projections riiiight?

When do the magazines come out?

This is what I know:
Dobber is August 1st
THN is late July early August depending on your region (it usually comes out in Quebec/East first, then the rest of Canada, then everywhere else)
The Forecaster is usually mid August I think?
McKeens is later...September usually.
Sportsnet - I haven't a clue, but it's a great new pool mag. worth a flip through.

Add your favourite mags here
Does anyone know what the release date is for the rest?
Dobber is August 1st
THN is August 5th McKeens- ?????????
Sportsnet - ?????????
The Forecaster- ????????

As far as I know you can't get FHS in stores. If you could I would. It's a pdf, I have it on my laptop.

As for the best mag, that's gotta be it. I've been buying Forecaster and McKeens for years, and I've always thought those were the best until now. I usually get the Hockey News just out of habit. Pooler's Guide is basically a joke, but I have bought it. Dobber is great for keeper leagues, but he's such a know it all, his whole shtick turns me off.

FHS beats them all. They have a lot of really neat content, it's funny and well-written. The profiles give lots of detail, and the articles are pretty unique. Great strategy stuff, plus some hilarious articles (there's a picture of Count Chocula at one point, just to give an idea. Trust me, you'll laugh). Their style is pretty entertaining, some of the other guides are pretty dry. It's also huge. I've been reading it for days, and I'm maybe halfway through.

Aside from that, here's my take on the others:

Forecaster - Really good, prob the best of the print mags.
McKeens - The best for pure hockey knowledge, but it's soooo dry. Great if you're starting a real life NHL franchise though.
THN - Garbage, there's nothing in it.
Pooler's Guide - Double garbage, it's even worse than THN
Dobber - Good content, knowledgeable writers. Great for keeper pools. Doesn't compete in terms of look.
