Holy shnikies, just realized how bad ANA drafted in 2008. They had like 5, first 3 round picks and all but that traitor dman guy were garbage for the most part. Dang. 2008 was a terrible drafting year for the Ducks.

Did you see him play in 2007? By far a lot better then than any time with the Kings. Did Penner ever play top 6 for them? Maybe that first season with them after the trade? He went from being top 6 in Anaheim and Edmonton to playing mostly 3rd or 4th line minutes (or no minutes). Besides, BB is a players' coach. I bet we see his best year since his 60+ point year in Edmonton

Etem and Palmieri on the 4th line?

The Forward depth we have really is unbelievable, we need to make a 2 for 1 trade for a defensemen.

Knowing Bruce, we'll see every possible line combination next season. Unless lines just click during training camp like the Cogs/Koivu/Winnik line did last season.

A D man would also have to be on the move if we're looking to bring one in.

I'm not a big Penner fan, but I thought someone would give him more money than this. Not a bad deal.

But who? Winnik could be an option, but BB and BM love him. Same with Cogs, Koivu and Beleskey. Maybe a 2 for 1 of dmen alone. I'd hate to trade Palmieri in a package unless it was for a really good dman.

Don't kid yourself, he basically ONLY played top six minutes... when he was in the lineup. The guy has zero motivation and only shows interest in the playoffs. I think it speaks volumes that Dean didn't re-sign him for two million. The guy is lazy and can't perform consistently. Glad he's finally gone. But hey, at least he's funny.

Who were his linemates in LA this past season and the season before? He did average about 14 minutes a game during this past year, so that does mean he got top 6 minutes (apologies). I still don't think he was ever a fit in LA's top 6 though, and it sure seemed like Sutter liked to make him the whipping boy.

Good thing we have extra preseason games now

He played alongside Richards and Stoll. And was garbage.

That's good now you don't have to worry about him.

Well, there goes my argument haha. At least in Anaheim he had the Twins and never lost his chemistry with them during his tenure (unlike B Ryan). Hopefully for the Ducks he is motivated to work for his next contract knowing he could get top line minutes on a consistent basis. It would also potentially result in a bigger FA deal next year for him. I also think BB is a better coach for him than Sutter, but only time will tell.

PS: Do you have an idea of who is replacing Penner in the top 6 for LA next year? Frattin/Williams?

All he has to do is use his big body and finish his chances with Getzlaf and Perry as his linemates. I think he'll do well on the top line for us. And this allows us to move Slifverberg to the second line, and Etem to the 3rd or 4th line.

His shooting percentages were absurdly low in Los Angeles. Obviously they play a much more structured game than Edmonton did, but still those are pretty big drops.

Still though, it was a bad move. Beauch should have been signed before he even went to Toronto in the first place.

As for Penner, sure, he sucks. I'll admit that, but Getzlaf and Perry made him look half-decent before... so, maybe they can pull it off again?
Ah, so the real reason BM signed him. Perry and Getz thought all they had to do to earn those big contract extensions was to play well themselves, but noooo. They will be expected to make Penner look like a top 6 forward. That BM is very sneaky. I wouldn't be surprised if Perry and/or Getz demanded a trade now that they know what is really expected of them.

We gave him a one year deal to prove himself and that worked out well.

Either Frattin or Pearson (I believe he makes the team out of camp).

in all seriousness i like this signing before he got to the kings he was a 20 goal player and re-uniting with Getzlaf and Perry may bring him back to where he should be. it was one of the leagues up and coming lines and I expect they will be good together again

We needed more size, he will get plenty of PP opportunities, and I like the dude on a personal level even though he can be lazy

Pittsburgh will be very interested. We'll have quite a few trade chips on the backend in the next calendar year. Vets, young NHL ready D and high end prospects. Take your pick.

I wonder if something like Palmieri for Despres could work. Not exactly sure what Simon's value is right now though, so don't blast me if this is a ridiculous idea

Plenty of PP opportunities? Weren't we the team with the least amount of PP chances last year? Haha. In all seriousness, he should be a decent screener out front that can bang away at loose pucks.
